i read this on a snapple lid and i dont think its true cuz my fish never cough does anyone know?

lots of things are wrong on snapple caps. never use them as a reference ;] i've never heard this before but i dont think they do. i mean, why do humans cough? things go down the wrong pipe to our lungs and we force it out with our diaphram. fish just arent built like that. i'm only assuming here, so you can't go completely by my word. actually, i'll look it up for you right now... ok so i found a site similar to this one and someone seemed to know what they are talking about. they said "They don't really cough, because you need a diaphragm to cough and fish don't have one. Same goes for birds. What they can do is regurgitate something. Birds can try to get rid of something in the airways by exhaling forcefully, but I recon fish don't, as they dont have lungs." I guess you could say they cough up food but thats about it. A fish breaths by taking water in through the mouth and pumping it out past the gills. However when they swallow something like a large piece of food it be too big to swallow which would cause the fish to cough it back up.

amazingly enough, fish yawn, and do have a body function similar to a cough, along with other things that may seem surprising
