Engineering schools like MIT, CalTech and even public colleges have a pretty consistent guy:gal ratio of 2:1, while colleges of arts and humanities are inundated by women. Why do women avoid taking cerebrally challenging subjects? Do they find them too difficult?

I don't understand the responses. Are women just not interested in things that challenge them, or are they turned off because those subjects are too hard for them? I don't understand.

Elsie: It's not a blanket statement, since most engineering schools are composed of 1/3 females...Just an overwhelming trend.

lady_b_luck: My ratio didn't change. 2:1 (male to female) is the same as 2/3 male and 1/3 female. Thus my point. Zing!
