me and my boyfriend make about 31,000 each. we are considering getting married, but think it will mess up our tax refund, meaning, we would get less.

also, i'm about 7 months pregnant, so from a financial (no moral) perspective, would it be better to get married and file joint or remain single.

also, i make too much money (i know, sad isnt it) for financial assistance, daycare assistance. so that sucks. i'm breast feeding throughout 12 months, so not in need of formula yet, but will be if my son doesnt take to the teet. please help!

having money to provide for our son is more important to me than being married. when our son is going to school full-time, making it less expensive siince we wont be paying for full-time childcare, we will get married

jennifer H: that's unreliable because in the past, we did not have children, so i would have no idea how to run taxes with children, and take out taxes regarding children and such

Why don't you get a copy of TurboTax and run your last two or three years of taxes through the program as if you were married and see if you would have gotten more or less? Then you'd know for sure instead of asking a bunch of people who probably are not tax-preparation experts.

Edit: Oh come on. TurboTax is not that hard. Run the stuff through BOTH WAYS - with and without children with the income you both make now, and assuming a deduction for daycare. You're going to get a better idea by actually LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS than you will by asking the people in here who are NOT in your shoes what they think you should do.

I'm in Canada so not really sure since you both make this much you would not really get any tax breaks because your income is too high. If he was the only one working and you stayed at home then yes he would get a spousal credit I had this one year when my wife was in school it worked out to around 1100 dollars. Really though personally if you can see yourself with your BF for the rest of your life then get hitched and raise your baby as a real mother and father and husband and wife.

Really I'm not sure if you belive in God but wouldn't you rather play it safe and get married before you give birth remeber he is watching.

God Bless Congrats and Best Wishes.

Really other benefits in marriage then just financial crap!

i had a talk with a friend about this. they get more being single and taking turns filing with dependants and being married. of course whats more important for you, getting a lil extra money at tax time or being morally right. not sure your religious views so thats up to you, but you do get more back, according to some friends if you file single.

It depends on more than that. It will probably save you on taxes by being married, especially with a kid.

Since you are having a baby, YOU will get more back NOT being married.

If you get married, you will get less.
