Aaargh it seems like I can't leave my house without getting asked for money at least 2-3 times within 3mins of leaving! 6 months ago the charity muggers (who are sooo hard to avoid as they've been trained on how to get you to talk to them) arrived, so you have to run the gaunlet of the 3 of them, then just this week 3 beggars arrived!!
One is outside the library holding fake copies of the Irish issue, another is across the street outside tutorial rooms, and the other sounds really posh and sits with his starbucks cup near where ppl queue for the bus. On the way to class today I was asked for money 3 times, and I live 3 mins walk away!
The local shop is also 3 mins walk in the other direction and I have to pass 2 beggars to get to it! I'm not a very confident person so to me it feels like I'm always being hassled for money, don't they know students r stingey?
I'd rather give to a homeless charity so I know the money is used wisely, what can I do to stop being hassled?

I know these people have to make their money somehow but come on, isn't setting up around a university a bit much? Today I actually took a different, longer route to class to avoid them!

Yeah I don't ignore them, I just say sorry I'm skint or something, I feel so bad about it though, students are so selfish, any money they do have is spent on going out so I dunno why 3 have suddenly appeared here. And it's not Cambridge or Oxford, it's Belfast

Well the bits where they are are the public street so I doubt there's much that can be done, for a project last yr I had to look into legislation about begging and busking and in this city there is none, some of the beggers make their kids busk with an accordian but you don't need a licence here so they're free to do it!!!
