Shelley Duncan
Mike Mussina
Jose Molina
Matsui

FOR

Johan Santana

I think that would be awesome, the Yanks dont NEED Matsui as much as they need Santana, Duncan hardly ever plays, Mussina is old, and Molina would make a great back up catcher.

That's an awful trade. The Twins would never accept that. Mussina and Matsui are both too expensive. Mussina is old and clearly ineffective as evidenced last season. The Twins already have a solid back-up catcher and Shelley Duncan serves absolutely no purpose for the Twins.

The Yankees aren't doing the Twins a favor by trading for Santana...they can't expect to give up a bunch of cast-offs and scrubs for the best pitcher in the game.

To get Santana the Yanks are going to have to give up REAL talent and we're talking about at minimum one of the big three...Chamberlain, Hughes or Kennedy and probably Melky or Cano for sure. In addition to some lower-level prospects.

Keep dreaming! That trade is not happening! Shelley Duncan won't help the Twins because he barely played as a Yankee so why would he play for the Twins?! Mike Mussina wouldn't help because he is old and was not effective last season. Jose Molina won't help because the Twins already have a sweet catcher who never needs a backup, Joe Mauer. Hideki Matsui is really good, but won't get the Yankees Johan Santana.

The Twins are looking for cheap talent like Hughes or Chamberlain or Kennedy. Emphasis on cheap. Mussina is done. Matsui is $13 million a year for 2 more years. Duncan maybe. Molina, I don't think so. The Yankees would only be renting Santana for a year anyway. While the Yankees stand as good a chance as any to sign Santana for a longer term contract, I don't see the Twins going for this proposal.

First of all, Matsui will not leave New York and the Yanks won't let him go anyway. Despite being in his 30's, he's a clutch hitter, excellent fielder, and can peg a runner out at home from anywhere in left field.

The only two that make a remote amount of sense are Duncan and Molina. Mussina is too old for the Twins to want him, and even though I'm a Yanks fan, I'm starting to look at Moose as near damaged goods.

Melky Cabrera, Joba Chamberlain, and Philip Hughes or Ian Kennedy is what the Twins will want. Just remember that the Yanks and Twins are "discussing" this. But Boston, Angels, and Mets are in the hunt as well --- and the Mets need him worse than any of the other three.

Would you do this if you were the Twins GM?

Two guys that make more money than Santana would be looking for. A backup catcher and a potentially useful player.

If the Yankees want Santana, you must be looking at guys like Hughes, Chamberlain AND someone else, like Humberto Sanchez.

You have to really look at both sides for a willing bed partner, you were really only looking at it from a Yankee perspective, as evidenced by your comments that the "Yankees don't need Matsui, Musina is old and Molina would make a great backup catcher and Duncan hardly plays"

The Twins are looking to shed salary and get younger. Mussina for 1 year at 11 Million and Matsui at 13Mill for 2 more years, are aging and overpaid, and seeing as Santana is slated to make only 13.25 million in '08 it seems kind of foolish to even think that the Twins would consider taking on 37 million in salary to get rid of the best pitcher in baseball. The Twins already have Mike Redmond as a backup to Joe Mauer, and Redmond is much better offensively and defensively than Molina, and Duncan is a glorified bench player with pop and not much else. So basically what i am saying is that i think this is a horrible proposal

Dude, that's a horrible return on investment for the Minnesota Twins. Mike Mussina is ancient, Hideki Matsui is old (for baseball standards) and Shelly Duncan and Jose Molina? Your joking right?! Here is probably the best trade for both teams:

Twins Get:
Joba Chamberlin or Phil Hughes and a position player like Melky Cabrera or Robinson Canoe

Yankees get:
Johan Santana

thats a ridiculous trade, the twins want young and cheap, shelley duncan is, i beleive a first basemen? the wins got morneau, mussina is ancient and would never be able to fill in what the twins loose in santana, molina is a great backup catcher, but hes a back up catcher and while matsui is good, i dont think the twins are really looking for corner outfielders

Think about this for a minute. Don't you think that the Twins management would be saying exactly what you're saying? Again, great for the Yankees, a disaster for the Twins. You're talking about major salaries here with Mussina and Matsui.

If the Yankees want Santana they will have to be willing to part with either Hughes or Joba (The Hutt). It's as plain as that. One or the other would have to be part of a multi-player deal to get Santana.

Yeah. The Yankees don't need Matsui since they have Damon, Cabrera, and Abreu. They could live without Mike Mussina because he's just....well, he should be thinking about retirement soon. They don't have a position for Shelly Duncan, and I didn't even know they had Jose Molina. Well, I'm sure they'll be fine without him.
