They should. He looked great as a reliever in 20 innings, and because of that and the fact that he plays in New York he is being overhyped. The Yankees say that they are going to use Joba as a starter which is unknown territory at the big league level, so why not cash in your chips and get yourself an ace, who may cost you a good chunk of change to resign, but is a proven commodity. Joba could be great, but he could also be Mark Prior. Johan is the best pitcher in baseball, and i personally despise the Yankees and hope they don't get him, but it just makes sense to go all out to get him

Hey Jeane,
i think the Yankees have already said that they would not include Joba Chamberlin in the deal.
i know there are those who ask: "What if Joba does not do well as a starter?" Considering the age of Mariano Rivera and what we saw from Joba last season - he an always be brought back in the bullpen and be the successor to Rivera.
i would give up: Melky (over-rated), Hughes and if necessary Kennedy (although if you can send some other prospects instead i'd go that route). We'll see how much the Twins are demanding- i think they can hold out a little longer...

who knows how Joba will do as a starter?? Yankee fans if you want Santana you have to give up quality. I could see the Twins getting 4-5 MLB ready prospects in exchange for Santana, especially if Florida gets 3-4 for Cabrera. And when did Melky Cabrera become a valuable trade piece. He's a decent fielder but nothing special.

If money isn't a concern (like if youre the New York Yankees) then sending Joba plus more for Santana is a no brainer YES!
If you want money then you play the kids and save your wallet because they are under slave contracts for the first 6-8 years due to the minor league system.

There was one person in here who I think said it well--that it's not that the Yankees would want to give up Joba, but given the unknown factor of how he would perform as a starter vs the given of how we know Santana performs. I think it's more of an emotional decision for the Yankee brass knowing that he pitches very well, and he could well be another "face" of the franchise--and the Yankees not only know this but are very leary to give that up along with the talent he already demonstrated.

the Twins should demand it anyway and see what happens. NYY will HAVE to give up either Hughes or Joba to get their hands on Santana.
MIN won't accept any high priced aged veterans from NYY - it'll cost at least one of those two plus Kennedy or maybe even Cano.
Johan is the best pitcher in MLB. You have to give to get, and Minnesota is holding all the cards.
You can bet they're asking the Red Sox for Bucholz and Ellsbury - but the Sox won't do that - not even for Santana (lefties in Fenway don't typically fare well).

Twins are holding out for the very best trade possible. However, they know Santana will not be their after the 2008 season so they will eventually give in and trade for less for they need to get something in return. Twins will get good players and/or prospects in return but just not very top. This is my opinion, but some teams are stubborn and will not give in thus ending up with nothing.

The Twins and Yanks are currently in "discussion" mode over this. The deal as I see it to get Santana involves Melky Cabrera, Philip Hughes, and Joba Chamberlain --- too high of a price to pay in my book.
The Red Sox or Angels might throw the biggest money --- Boston just to keep him out of pinstripes and the Angels because once they sign Miguel Cabrera to play third, they would probably be willing to spend another pile to get Santana to make sure they get past the LDS in October.
Sadly, the team that needs him the worst is the Mets, who are in the hunt along with LAA, NYY, and Sox.

They are probably considering it...they seem to want Santana pretty bad...I wouldn't be surprised at the lengths the Yankees will go to get a dominant number one starter in their rotation again.

Joba is untouchable.
Phil Hughues might be traded for Santana. I don't want that to happen.
