real or fake Christmas trees? I get a reall one becaue it is better for the enviroment! fake trees are made with polyvinyl chloride (or PVC, otherwise known as vinyl), one of the most environmentally offensive forms of non-renewable, petroleum-derived plastic.

I prefer a real tree for Christmas. The smell of the real tree fills the house with such a Christmas feeling and wouldn't be the same without one.

I personally prefer fake because it is easier and not nearly as messy. Plus I feel bad cutting a tree down to use for only a month. I understand what you are saying about the vinyl and that makes sense however I plan on reusing mine for many many years. I know that the article says that real ones can be recycled but the truth is how many people actually do that? I would if I had a real tree but most people unfortunately do not. I can't decide which is the lesser of the two evils but since I have a fake one I'll be keeping it for the long haul.

This year I am doing a real tree because it is my first Christmas in my first house. But I will buy a fake Christmas tree for the years I don't feel like messing with a real tree.
Also, though you have a valid point about fake Christmas trees, they last a long time and when you cut down a real tree that is also not good fro the environment. Especially if everyone did year after year after year.

I say get a real tree! They get you more into the christmas feel by their pine smell. The only bad thing is that you have to sweep up a bunch of needles in the end. But i guess you could say its worth it ;). Plastic trees arent that bad...they dont look completely real, but if you want to keep the environment healthy, then leave the trees where they are. Keep in mind though, most trees are pre cut, so you could just put them to good use before the ones that arent used are thrown out.

That depends on point of view. a fake tree can be used for many years there for cause the trees to not be cut down year after year. they also are not a fire hazard. esp for people in apartments(many apartments now will not allow live trees because of it.). we have a wood stove in the same room as our tree so it dries out way too fast and there for creating a huge mess. Also then you have to dispose of a tree that does not make for good burning in a wood stove.
I will take a fake tree....though I love the smell of fresh pine I am also allergic to it.

Real trees ARE better for the environment. More trees are planted for each tree cut down or else the tree farmers would be out of business after one year.

And here I thought this was going to be about boobs. I prefer real trees because it's fun to go looking for one with the kids. But at the moment, we have a fake one since the kids are still very young and it's less messy. Once they get older, we'll start getting real ones.

Real if you plant the tree afterwards!
There's alot of fake trees that use recycled materials. Which is a good thing. Plus you're not chopping down a tree every year, and you're saving money.
