well let me remember...
no seatbelts
trick or treating at dusk to about 9 or 10pm
no ipods
no fear of walking down your street
no fear of walking to & from school
no cable tv or satellite tv
no f.m. radio stations
no microwave ovens
more family time
better work ethics in the kids & adults
safer schools and parks
big V-8 gas guzzlers (hmmm)
spray cans (with flourocarbon emissions)
leaded paint
asbestos floors
formaldehyde in the building materials
about 5 channels on the tv (in my area)
records (vinyl) & record players
yeah how about that no air bags, ABS brakes, or car seats, and we all managed to survive
people actually knew how to drive!
Good clean fun, feel good music
birth of rock & roll
hippy movement
lowered the voting age in 1970 to 18 years old
Our boomer culture seen alot. We survived the 60's with strength and endurance and bravery. It was a major time period in our history. We survived the deaths of major historical figures like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Bobby Kennedy & John Kennedy, The Manson Murders, Kent State deaths, Vietnam War, etc
Times were hard, but times were better and I'd much rather be there than here anyday. Now all the kids see is cold & bland . Too much technology is not always a good thing. Families are seperated, kids are whining about everything, there's no work ethics, nor is there any caring about anything. Its al l about the me, me me generation. How sad for all of us!

I don't understand either. I respect the laws of today., but I never wore sunscreen and have no cancers, I still drink the tap water and have never had a cavity at 44 years old. Our house was always warm. Actually they were probably better insulated then they are now. I don't think that the new generation is smarter or has more common sense because if it wasn't for us old folks they would not know how to do anything but play video games. They have it made in the shade. We could run the streets until dark and never have to worry about some sex maniac kidnapping us. As the world has aged. the young is more lazy and less active, and less responsible because everything gets handed to them on a silver platter. We had to take baths after each other in the same water too. We did not have to worry about diseases. We never smelled either. Time has made a change I guess. This is why it takes more money to live too. No one now days ever thinks of burning the oil lamp to save on electricity. We used to ride bicycles to school and town, now the kids are to lazy to walk anywhere. They always think they are being abused. I also got my butt spanked and I still have great respect for my parents. Do it today, and Family services will be on your doorstep. What a different world we live in today. I liked it better back then.

I know, but if you get in my 66 mustang, and hit a 2008 anything, my mustang will come out the winner! You hear a definite 'clang' when you close the doors! But seriously, my husband and I had a body shop in the 70's, and I can tell you that but for the Grace of God are you here. There are a lot who aren't here, you just don't know about it. As far as the sunblock, well, our generation is paying for that now. Skin cancer is very prevelant in our age group. Heat in a house is not an indicator of health. You simply dressed warmer inside, and there weren't as many surfaces for bacteria to grow (too cold). And older heating systems didn't have A/C too, so they didn't breed bacteria like the newer HVAC does. We had speed limits of 65 miles per hour, but didn't go that fast unless we were on a highway. Local roads were bumpy and rough, so we generally drove slower. And drinking and driving were always bad, I remember quite a few people getting killed back then, as with today. Hope this brings back memories!

All of the above...plus...we didn't sit in the house 24-7 playing video games...we were outside, u could drink creek water, lake water, the 60's weren't an "all about me" generation like today, we worked for things we had n appreciated life then n still do. Why R we still alive...cause we were raised to survive with out guns, violence, drive by shootings. Personally, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Bonus...all the great music..

the more people worry about things the more silly (and good too) ideas they come up with for every little thing. the more time progresses, the more safety equipment and rules are applied. many things are seen to be a complete necessity when in reality some are just brainwashed into society so that somebody makes more money and then everyone feels safer. and YES they do protect us in some way or another, although I don't doubt that one can get along just fine without it too. which is why people lived carefree back then. nowadays, people are terrified of everything and have to put safety pads on every aspect of life. can get kinda cumbersome in some instances although now mothers are 1000% sure their children are protected from head to toe and from school and back. the idea that you better be safe than sorry is ever so rapidly being injected into society, so that overprotecting somebody is becoming a normal part of life.

LOL! You forgot the drugs...lol.
For one, there was alot less people to deal with. We became a sue happy, me world, do onto others before they do to you world.
With drinking, cops use to follow you home or give you a ride.
We are destroying our ozone, and don't care. Therefore, we must now protect ourselves.
Ice on the outside of our windows was caused by, not having double pain windows.
However, most is caused by the suing factor. Therefore, the government has stepped in to tell us what to do and when to do it, and it's going to get worse.
And... we're still alive because we haven't forgotten why we were so peaceful inside.

LOL! so true. In the primary school i went to we had to cross a road from the main building over to our playground and there was no lollipop lady! it wouldn't be allowed now. when i went on holiday with my friends family we all piled into the car and never once wore a seatbelt. I would never allow my son to go without a seatbelt.

because we were allowed to play outside, without our parent being terrified all the time.
cars didnt have ABS etc, but they didnt do 100mph, most wouldnt do 85... and there werent as many on the road.
we learned to communicate, we had NO playstations or PC's, we DID our homework and knew we were going to get a decent job at the end of it all...
we embraced the technology... and expanded our consciousness as we experimented, with love, life, and drugs...
we werent hounded by plod... we werent a statistic to bolster school league tables, we didnt get any pressure until we were doing our A levels...
we had so much freedom we didnt know what to do with it... beer was 20p a pint.. petrol was 23p a gallon... and my first wages were 6 quid a week...
yes the 60's were free... thats how we dealt with the 70's... the 80's was a drug induced stress fest, with state anarchy and the miners strike. the 90s is an extention of the late 80's, and today is much the same... its for the playstation generations... and its too loud, too fast and too damn expensive...

bcuz now of days people r to preoccupied up w/ the risks of life to think that generations b4 us have survived so in the tirade of thinking they get law people to make laws to either forbid or have certain features in cars, planes, etc but when really all of these thoughts come from a risk that turns into a fear...yea there are risks and everyday we take one but when people go over the top it is just ridiculous
