I'm a software engineer and the long days/nites/weekends/pages are kinda wearing me down...the flip side is they pay me a boat load of money...low six figures...but I would so love to walk out of work and know I had the evening to myself and to have a string of weekends where I knew I had them to myself...ok can I have some cheese with this whine?? lol

9 to 5 for me. I do not want to think of the word work after 5pm. They could phone me but they would get told to go away in a less polite manner.

I'm a thermal design engineer with a heat exchanger manufacturing company. Right now, I have the privilege of leaving at 5pm Monday-Friday and not worrying about work anymore...but I know my day is coming because our company is growing very quickly. I'm enjoying it while I can! Good luck with your job!

Save up the boatloads of money, start your own business and make your own hours. Or, take a lower paying job with steady hours and do your own business on the side to make up the extra income.
I would hate to be comfortable in my bed and get called out to do something.

I leave the office and work at 5pm. If I am called for duty on weekends, I require advance notice or I tell them to f**k off.

If you are being paid that much, then you should expect to work extraordinary hours without complaint. Compare that with those of us who work extra hours and either don't get paid at all for the effort (exempt employees), or have to settle for time-and-a-half (non-exempt and/or minimum wagers).

So, yes, by all means, have some more "whine",
regardless of how bitter you think it is.
And allow me to play the world's smallest violin
in sympathy for you. ;)

I am an emcee and my work ends when the show ends. My weekends are my weekends (except for a few hours when I am doing a show)

When I leave work I am free. If any of my employees need assistants I do what I can over the phone, but that is it.

Nope. I'm always on call. The only time I'm not on call is when I'm on vacation.
