I heard on the news this morning that the football player Sean Taylor passed away as a result of his injuries occured from a home invasion. Although he was in the NFL, this is just another sad reminder of how young black men are continuing to be killed over senseless violence. What can be done to stop this unfortunate trend?

Serious replies only!!!

I appreciate those who are not ignorant for giving genuine answers. And for whoever asked, I didn't say 'they' were black, but obviously Sean Taylor is dummy.......SMH

You know, I saw that story, too, and thought about the same thing. The life that he lead before his murder didn't help, either. I think the violence comes from the lack of a family structure in the homes of many young black families today. I originally lived in Chicago, and most of my friends and family members grew up in homes where there was no father and many times mom was too bogged down to properly care for her kids. So where do the children learn their values? On the streets, from pimps, drug dealers, and a host of unsavory individuals.
I'm not saying that this happens solely in black communities, but it seems as if it happens more time in our community than in others, and I think that comes from a long line of black men fighting for equality and, in some cases, feeling inferior.
When will it stop? When men fathers finally come to their senses and stand up and be fathers, when mothers don't have to do unspeakable things to get their families by, when PEOPLE USE CONTRACEPTIONS AND STOP MAKING BABIES THAT THEY CANNOT PROPERLY CARE FOR!
Will it ever end? Only God knows.

Mommies and Daddies need to instill in their young children the consequences of guns, and violence. Discuss with their kids why it is wrong to show violence, and teach and commend proper behavior. Stop buying young children guns and holsters, swords, violent games and cd's etc. Talk and discuss what is watched on the one-eyed idiot box....(TV) Teach them other constructive ways to play, and act out frustrations, by talking out their differences and resolving the issues. Show them love and understanding compassion and how to be humbled.Teach them that WORK is GOOD and NO ONE OWES THEM A LIVING, OR FINANCIAL SUPPORT. As teenagers, go thru their bedroom, searching for drug paraphanelia, take it away, and discuss the problem with them. That is their room and it is in your house, they don't own their rooms, nor should they have the privacy of drugs in your house. Parents need to get off the couch, and deal with their offspring firmly and with love.
ON THE FLIP SIDE OF THE QUESTION:
As far as only the blacks, you are wrong....it is in every culture in the USA.....I watched on a news station a few months back, that one town in the here in the US had a gun in each and every household AND ALL WERE REQUIRED TO KNOW HOW TO SHOOT THEM. Simply because of that there was no crime in that town. Well maybe we all need to have guns, that concept might be the only thing that will work, AND THE CONSEQUENCE BE NOT TO THE HOMEOWNER.......random acts of idiocy be severly punished.

These acts are devastating to all of us....dont you realize that. The Mexican Gangs, Black Gangsta, the KKK, all of that is just crap.....and is killing what morals are left. The Mexicans are devoutly Catholic.....go to church repent the sins of the week and go out and do it again and do worse.....BS to that....vicious cirle of crap and no gains.

The problem we no longer value the ideals of a moral society and our emphasis is now placed on money, status, and selfishness.

We don't teach spiritual values to our children like our parents did years ago and our society has focused on the gangster lifestyle. We even glorify it on TV in our reports of these criminals of the past.

As a parent today it will take a lot to teach our children not to accept the values of today's society but I feel that's what it's going to take to try and save our children from the greed that permeates this culture.

I truly feel that the changes in African American Society is in turmoil heavily due to young mothers and absent fathers. These young men are being raised by the radio. They hear all this crap about a life that they will never have but think that being a thug is going to get them that kind of life. We need have more fathers and mothers who are not dropping their kids off at their 45 year old mothers house while they go to the club and hang out. Our youth is very confused about how their life is supposed to be lived. We as a community need to get back to raising our youth in church with good moral values and then raising them at home with good communication and discipline (and I do mean Spank your kids!!) If we don't raise our children to know that there are consequences to their actions they will take that attitude in to the world with them. If we don't spank our children and discipline them at home, then the world will beat them for us. Because of our heritage; it is in their blood to be strong at a young age, just as African warriors come into manhood at a young age. We have to learn from our cultural history and cultivate that strength and give it some direction to keep it from turning into a negative in our young black men. Use our positive to push them in the right direction, toward education, empowerment, community and a love of self that they are desperately missing.

Blessings

The education system needs a complete overhaul.....and so does the court systems and jail systems. Start when they're young....add some classes in school like morals and values....parenting classes. The court systems and jail systems need to be more creative when it comes to rehabilitating inmates, and actually rehabilitate them....if they get in trouble more than three times, keep them locked up for the rest of their lives. They need to hold parents accountable for having multiple babies and not giving them the care they need.....don't know who the father is...on drugs..etc. That can mess a kid up.

When will white stop raping and killing innocent children!!

"The girl was beaten with leather belts, had her head held underwater in a bathtub and then was thrown across a room, her head slamming into a tile floor, the mother said in the document. She said they kept the body in a storage shed for one to two months before they put it in a plastic bin and dumped it into Galveston Bay."

Stop putting them in jail! It only makes things worse, especially if what they are in for is a minor crime. There are no second chances for felons. Even if a person forged a check for pizza in high school he/she will never be able to find a job again, even for bartending/cosmetology/attending gas stations, etc.
