Great point. Be prepared to get a lot of grief for this one. I've been trying to point this out for some time now. I always get thumbed down by those who think the people's right to know trumps national security.
From Courts Martial for Marines doing their jobs to Blackwater, embedded media have been the Achilles heel of the Iraq conflict. In fact, this problem started during Viet Nam with the advent of "instant coverage".
"War, live at 5" is like a freeway wreck. Everybody wants to slow down and get a good look so they can act all sick and describe the "horror" they witnessed.
It's also prudent to protect information domestically so as NOT to create panic, interfere with investigations or lead the nation to false conclusions.
Freedom of the press is a marvelous freedom indeed but I believe it comes with a great deal of responsibility which seems to be the part our national media doesn't get!
You get a star for this one!

I have been in combat..... twice..... and like the old adage says, "what they don't know won't hurt them". Having the media broadcasting as we shoot, move and communicate is very dangerous. It gives away location, troop strength, and weapons. As far as on the Intelligence gathering side, that too can be very dangerous, if Citizens had access to the day to day intelligence we gather, they would be pulled into twenty different directions, talk about confusion, we have hundreds of analyst trying to figure it out and they can not agree on a course of action, now put that intel into the hands of the people and all chaos would ensue. For instance, what would have been the American peoples reaction to the fact that we have the Atomic Bomb and are going to use it on Japan? Then throw in world opinion and you have anarchy on your hands.

Some wont understand this question, but I do, and I agree. I imagine the ones that will disagree have never been in harms way in combat due to the media

Because it's not THEIR life on the line in a war zone...they do not care if the information endangers the lives of someone else so long as they get to know what they think they want to.

those who hate the current government would do anything to hamper it.
and they're the same ones who wanted to design a national health system for all of us to live with in 1993.
another case of "do as I say, not as I do".

I have squandered my resistance
for a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
all lies and jests
still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

I've never been in combat, but I understand that the gov't doesn't and shouldn't tell us everything.

Most are clueless!
They do not have the need, or the right to know everything. And, if they did, they couldn't handle it.
