You mean besides talent? Luck.
Look, there are no “requirements”. You’re not applying to be an accountant. There is no path, there is no certification, there is no formula that will garauntee you getting a job. Acting is a creative field that is dependant on the subjectivity of the casting directors. What a CD is looking for in an actor can changes from project to project and even person to person. You will never know what they’re looking for, so the only thing you can do is be the best actor YOU can be. That means getting solid training and experience and building a good resumes. Start by taking acting classes and auditioning for school and community theatre productions. As you progress and grow as an actor, you may start considering a conservatory or BFA (and later a MFA) program. While you’re doing this, you can also be building the “film” part of your resume by doing student, short and independent films. Check for notices at your local university. While at school, you can audition for Summer Stock productions to further build your resume. After you graduate, you can begin auditioning for professional companies and theatres to start replacing your amateur credits with professional ones.
The above poster mentioned looks…I would not recommend focusing on this on this point. You are who you are. You can eat healthy and exercise to be fit and feel good about yourself, but starving yourself or otherwise drastically changing your looks in the hopes that it will help you become an actress is crazy. There are tons of incredibly beautiful people in Hollywood who can’t even get their foot in the door. The talent part needs to be developed first or CD’s and agents won’t even look at you anyways, so what’s the point of trying to maintain that size 0?
Sign up for an acting class and see how it goes.
Good luck!

Of course there is a path and there are requirements. If you are under 18, it is required that your parents sign everything for you to do professional work. To be an actress it is required that you can act, that you get experience acting, that you get professional training in acting, and I think a mentor is needed to keep you on the right path and out of harm. Read my profile and write to me at my aol address for more info.

Well its mainly about luck, you should probably be pretty if you want to be a big actress, have a nice body (this doesnt mean starving yourself in todys society, it means working out, staying in shape)... but getting an actress job is the hardest part, everyone wants to do it!

Acting ability. That is the requirement.
Other things, like good looks or an additional talent like singing or dancing, are definite bonuses, but are not necessary to acting.

Best plan is to get a proper training - but even then, work is scarce, unless you are very lucky.
For trainings in UK go to the Conference of Drama Schools website at
