Use the hottest tap water you can, not boiling. You can use shampoo on the brushes and just clean them until the water runs clear. After they are dried, you can use a stronger formula to kill any remaining bacteria. Go to any Ulta or Sephora, and there are many spray brush cleansers. I too use expensive brushes and I use these steps to disinfect my brushes. You DO NOT have to throw them away. No bacteria will survive the hot water, and the alcohol in the cleaner spray.

I have been a beauty Consultant, and NO there is no way to clean and still have them as sterile as before. The germs will always be there. You should definately buy new one's, they donot cost that much. go to a Dollar store, they are just as good and this way IF you get the infection again in the future, you won't have spent much money on new one's. Hope this helps.? Oh & NEVER use someone els'e makeup or brushes either. For this reason. It is unsanitary.

hmmm what kind of cleaner are you using? that could possibly even be the culprit. I don't think it is necessary to clean the brushes everyday. clinique makes a good brush cleanser that is a spray on and also just a mild baby shampoo works good. again though you maybe over cleaning them. I would for sure talk to an opthamologist.

I soak my brushes in vinegar and baking soda. Then I rinse them and let them air dry. Good brushes are expensive!!! But what about your make up? Good it be the culprit. Bacteria also accumulates around caps and lids. I live in a humid climate and it is a big problem, so I use sanitized wipes a lot... not every day, but about once a week.

Sadly no. The only way to prevent a reoccurence is to start from scratch and get new brushes. Chemicals and even water may damage the delicate brushes.

Yup... soak them in rubbing alcohol and then wash them THOROUGHLY.
You can buy sanitizing solution at Beauty Stores that they soak combs in (remember those tall glass jars of blue stuff on the counter in front of you?) and always rinse. Also, your makeup is likely carrying the infection now. Time to ditch it and treat yourself to new stuff (like those new colors you've been considering)
I bleach my hairbrushes occasionally after cleaning them out (soak about 30 minutes in a mixture of bleach and water) and then (this is the honest to god truth) I take them in the shower and wash them repeatedly while my conditioner is soaking into my hair. It gives me something to do and they get a really thorough cleaning and rinsing. It also will clean up your hairbrush residue like you can't believe. But I wouldn't use he bleach part on makeup brushes because you are so close to your eyes. However just taking them in with you and repeatedly soaping will do wonders for them. See below for proper drying.
Also, you can run them through the dishwasher on a cold cycle just like you wash your toothbrush (heat will melt the glue) with a tiny bit of dish soap - don't dry them though, just take them out, smooth the bristles down and dry them flat. Alternatively - whenever you wash them, roll them in paper towels after smoothing the bristles the way you want them to lie and hold them in place by wrappnig tightly in paper towel while drying (paper towel when wet will roll and stay rolled better than cloth towel.) But the dishwasher is a risky tough if they don't hold up well to the water blasts. I'd go with heavy swirling in rubbing alcohol and then soap.
Just always be sure to rinse really well. Back into the shower with you I say.

I work for a LARGE cosmetic firm and trust me you should throw out anything that has come in contact with your eyes!
This means brushes and liners, pencils, mascara , lash curlers if metal or plastic you should beable to wash with hot soapy water and then place rubbing alchol and let air dry.
Please this is very importaint that you becareful of your eyes. I have seen people with very bad illnesses due to this very same thing. Better safe then sorrry.
Good Luck !

I have always just soaked mine in very hot water with a tiny bit of alcohol. I leave them in there until the water gets cold, then take them out. Turn the water back on hot, and run your brushes under the tap one at a time. (Squeeze water out of brushes until water appears clear- especially with the larger brushes)
Afterwards lay them out on a clean towel or paper towel to dry.

expose em in ultra violet rays, artificial lamp or from the sun, hospitals used that to disinfect and sanitize a room recently vacated. Some water purifiers incorporate UV rays to kill the bacterias. Be careful not to stare at this rays, they can harm our eyes.
