It varies depending on the service provider at the prison...usually they are inflated if they're from correctional facilities. Phone companies pay commissions to state prisons for exclusive contracts.
Don't feel any guilt about it. It's your money, and she can always write.
10 years ago, a 15 minute call from a PA prison to Philly would cost $7.05, while AT&T would have cost $4.79.
You can see there's a markup. You can use the same ratio today and come up with a reasonable estimate.

Collect calls from jails are expensive. When i lived in Florida, someone I didn't even know tried to get me to accept a collect call from the jail in the same town. The cost was $.95. I don't know what the time limit on accepting the call was, but I declined to accept it. My call was operator assisted, so if yours are, ask the operator what the cost is.

You can limit it by buying her a Wal-Mart calling card. Don't know if the jail will give it to her--you might call and ask.

Oh it will definately show on the bill. I don't know the exact rate of your call, but I bet it will be anywhere from $3-7.

How would anyone here know? Depends on the LD rate for her and/or your phone carrier. As soon as you get your phone bill you'll know what it costs per call or per minute.

They're not cheap, and your s-i-l can't pay for them. Pay this month's bill and put a ***few*** bucks on her account at the facility. If she needs to communicate that badly, she can purchase some stamps and supplies, and write you.
No one says you have any duty to take on debt because she can't pay for them.
