Looks like you need a basic computer. It may cost a little more to upgrade you graphics card and increase your RAM for game play but here is a suggestion where to start for close to the price:

I have a Dell that I created that fell in my price range and I'm very happy with their products and service. No problems. Easy online and phone help. Very satisfied. Good luck.

Due to your limited budget that narrows down your options, ($500) perhaps someone has a system that they zeroed out in a firm or business office with not much use. Someone you would know might have one that is available for you. Luck would be a flat screen, keyboard, and medium tower to put in your discs to load up. My preferred choice would be H/P. But in your case any that's free is a beginning. Explore that option first, then look for price on anything but Dell. (Your luck that might be the only one) Remember speakers, mic and other options might make this difficult. (for around $500) Also costs of your computer service whether cable or dial-up.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Dude for 500 bucks you can probably only get a really crappy computer that wont even play halo. My laptop is twice that price and it cant play games like halo.A gaming laptop would probably cost like from 1500 and up. A gaming computer cost like 750-1000.
