hi there, Im 4 and a half months, 18 weeks. Ive only just started having some cravings.. strangely its jalepeno peppers and baked beans... haha
Not everyone experiences them, when you start to feel more hunger all the time, thats when you'll have the thoughts of particular foods in your mind. And thats when the cravings start.
Most mornings Im waking up thinking of food but its only started happening for me for about 2 weeks now. Dont be worried if you dont have cravings, its actually good not to have them as your more likely to crave fatty foods, which just puts on the weight.
Congrats on the pregnancy, hope it goes well for you. I found out Im having a boy at 17 weeks.

My cravings came later on. Probably around 5 or 6 months. Some people don't even get cravings. I also got some cravings that only lasted like a week, then I couldn;t stand the sight of that certain food for the rest of the pregnancy. I also craved the same foods with both of my pregnancies. Good Luck

It depends on the women and your normal eating habits before you were pregnant. It is common for most women to get weird hunger cravings but it does not happen to all. Most of the time though it is later in the pregnancy when you start to gain the most weight, say between 4 and 7 months. Although, it could also be something you could trigger yourself by trying different foods you never ate before, and see how you react to them. If you like them; you never know a while later you might be waking somebody up in the middle of the night to make a food run!!!!

Some cravings are caused by an imbalance -- for example, if your body recognizes that your potassium level is low, you might crave bananas or broccoli. If your energy levels are low, the carbohydrates seem irresistible.
Most women crave salty things -- pickles, chips, etc. because their bodies are storing water for the baby (amniotic fluid). Be careful, tho, because too much salt will cause you to retain water and get swollen ankles and legs (sometimes painful!). Salt/Sodium also leads to high blood pressure -- not good for either of you.
During my first pregnancy, I had low potassium levels and craved bananas -- and other yellow foods, like corn pops cereal and yellow marshmallow Peeps. (No other color, just Yellow!)
No cravings is a sign that your diet is diverse and meeting your body's needs.
Old wives tales linked cravings or symptoms with physical characteristics of the baby -- heartburn = hair, craving pickles = boy, or whatever.

I never really got strong cravings early in pregnancy, usually it was certain foods that just sounded disgusting. At about 19-20 weeks I'd get more cravings for things like buffalo wings, and cake.

I am 13 weeks and really haven't had any major cravings just yet. I heard in your second trimester is usually when the cravings start.

It depends on the pregnancy! My 1st I craved anything sweet from day one (which could explain the 60lbs I gained)! #2 I craved fruit right at 12wks and I had one MUST HAVE craving for corn on the cob (in October, at 2am)...by the time my then hubby found some, I didn't want it. My 3rd made me crave cheeseburgers and ketchup from day one! I couldn't get enough!! I did find it interesting that all I wanted was sweets with my girls and protein with my son!

It really varies from woman to woman, and it can happen anytime. I have more of an appetite and had cravings for certain foods throught my pregnancy (e.g. first it was soups, then grain products, now it's desserts). It's not an issue to worry about because it varies from woman to woman. Some women get lots of cravings, others get none at all. :)
(I also have a friend who used to freeze water bottles and break them in the garage because she craved ice water and ice chips... her husband thought she was crazy.)

I am 36 weeks now and I have only craved milk in my last trimester. I think if you maintain a healthy diet you will rarely have "cravings", because your body is already getting all the nutrients that it needs.
