Well, I will give it a shot.
First, all communications on the internet is by a number (IP address to IP address) your computer handles this for you so you can use names without having to use numbers.

The Gateway, is simply an address / portal which goes to some other network. If you are on your local network the gateway takes you to the internet or to a different local network. (It is the path to outside your local system.) If you have a local router its local address is your gateway address.
If you don't have a router or from inside your router, your ISP has a "gateway" address to get you outside of their local system.

DNS is the Domain Name System. On the internet you like to type http://yahoo.com the DNS looks up yahoo.com and translates that to an Internet Address (IP) because on the internet or on your local network names are easier to remember than long numbers. (DNS works outside your local network in most cases.)

Think of DNS like a "phone book" it looks up a name gives your computer the "number" it needs to use to connect to that name.
There are two servers used for this, a Primary and Secondary dns server. This is simply to give you quicker lookups (and in case one is down the other works.) Without a DNS lookup you would have to use a full IP address to get to a website!
http://66.94.234.13 instead of http://yahoo.com (that is only one of yahoo's ip addresses).

Hope that Helps

simple!
Gateway allow you to connect to another network segment.

Primary and secondary DNS, allow you to perform the name resolution from name to IP address. Human remember name but not number. So DNS is to do the convertion base on what we query in name.
