My dream is to become a Singer. Not a Lawyer, Doctor, or Teacher. A Singer, and I've been trying to find a great college, or school in New York City that might be able to help me accomplish this dream but I haven't had any such luck yet, so can anyone please help me???

First off, know that if you want to go to college to learn to sing, you're either looking at a "musical theatre" or a "vocal performance" major. A vocal performance major is housed in the music department and focuses on classical singing, starting with Art songs and progressing to operatic arias. A musical theatre major may be housed either in the theatre or the music department, depending on the school and focuses on a different style of singing. So, depending on what you want to do will determine on where you end up going. There are some great schools for classical singing in NY - Julliard is obviously the top of the list, with the Manhattan School of Music a close second. if you're willing to go a little farther, the Boston Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory (also in Boston) also have great programs while being in close proximity.

For the best musical theatre programs, you may also have to look outside NY - Univ of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon both have very competitive, well respected programs.

If you simply want to learn how to sing, check out the National Association of Teachers of Singing website (www.nats.org) for a listing of qualified teachers in your area.

Why don't people just tell you what you want to know? The schools mentioned in the previous answer are your answer, the rest is superfluous.
