It doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. Hopefully you should know what you're into and what you like to get for yourself. What you like to get for yourself often makes an excellent starting point for making your list. From there you can then put down what you'd like to get that you don't yet have.

I've kept a list year round since before I was your age and I'm constantly updating it. Adding on new things I'd like to get, removing thing's I've purchased or recieved, removing items I'm no longer into, adding new things I am into, and even subdividing categories to make them a little cleaner both for me when I go to update and for the person whose reading the list. Currently my list is up to four pages in length. What makes it so short is that a lot of items are placed into categories. Generally I write out a list in that each new item is on its own line with a space between it and other items, but categories are done more paragraph style in that the items in the categories are all placed together without space beteen the lines. Otherwise I'd probably be looking at about twenty pages. Let me give you an idea of what it looks like without giving away everything on it.

VIDEOS (category, somethings are only on VHS and not on DVD)
DVDS - movies and documentaries (category)
DVDS - TV series (category)
BOOKS - novels and TPBs (category)
BOOKS - cookbooks (category)
BOOKS - history and military (category)
AUDIO BOOKS (category)
MUSIC (category)
COMPUTER GAMES (category)
VIDEO GAMES (category)
CANDLE MAKING WAX
CANDLE MOLDS
JAR CANDLES

Yes, I capitalize things, and I bold face them too. This really makes things stand out. But in the categories, after I list what the category is I use plain face with only capitalization used where it should be. For instance, under the BOOKS - cookbooks category, one of the books I list is "A Taste for War: The Culinary History of the Blue and the Gray."
