Well if you are on cable then your PUBLIC address more than likely is Dynamic. (very few companies these days will assign a static IP to you unless you pay more for it!) How often that will change is totally up to the cable company! This is the address the modem has been issued. If you want to know if you have a static public IP you will have to contact your cable supplier and ask. (Most will be dynamic.)

Your LOCAL ip's are whatever you set them up to be within your router and your network. They only affect your LOCAL machines. The lookup you do in windows will only show your LOCAL address not your PUBLIC address.

To see your public address go to
http://whatismyip.com the address will show on the page!

Hi. Im sure you have a dynamic address as most broadband providers dont assign static unless you have a business account with them or you request it and you pay more money per month. And even then its technically not static. Static implies that you manually enter the IP settings yourself. What they do is reserve the address on there side so no one can take it if your computer is off the day the lease on your address runs out and your Modem is off. Kinda like static. but they can take it anway whenever they want. to check for sure from the router your WAN connection will say obtain address or DHCP or just say CABLE. if thats the case its definitely dynamic. If it says static or Manual then its static address. However, if you didnt put the address in yourself then its not really static. its obtained dynamically. to know for 100% sure whether there is a reservation so that it wont change as i mentioned before check with them. but i really doubt thats the case.
As far as your PC's are concerned, you can use the "IPCONFIG" command at the command prompt(start, run, type "CMD") to verify whether DHCP is enabled(if yes then its dynamic). Happy hunting, good luck!!!!!

Hi, The likelihood is you are using and an IP automatically assigned to you. If you have Windows XP follow the steps below to find out: Start->My Network Places, then right-click on the Local Area Connection that's connected and choose properties. On the General tab find the box with "This connection uses the following items:" Click once on "Internet Protocal (TCP/IP)" . Then click the properties button underneath. On the General tab in the new window you'll see two radio buttons, one saying "Obtain an IP address automatically". If this is what's chosen then you have been assigned an IP dynamically via DHCP. if you're using windows. then go to start\control panel\
then a new window will appear. double click network connections. Then choose your internet connections. Right click it and choose properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Then click properties. If the radio button - Obtain IP address automatically is chosen then you have a dynamic ip address. If not and there are numbers below it then its a static ip address.

Hope this helps.
