A peace conference is the easiest way for him to try to save the GOP at the next election. It is very cheap in comparison to a war and it always gives good press opportunities.

Maybe with these insane gas prices we will finally see automakers get their high mileage cars off the drawing charts and into the assembly line......like the Plug in Volt and Prius and such.

I hate 3.00 per gallon for gas, but looking on the bright side it could spark a revolution of auto manufacturing

Every president whips together a mid-east peace conference.
They've all failed and so will this one.
It's like putting a check in a box.
Waste of time but, the angry rhetoric for doing it is not as bad as it would be if it were not done.
It's a periodic dog an pony show so somebody can get nominated for a Nobel Prize.

He probably knew when he was told by his masters to have one.

He has to at least look like he cares about peace.

$3 a gallon is cheap compared to uk where we pay nearly £5 a gallon. Since a dollar is not worth as much as a pound $3 a gallon is only like £2 a gallon. Half the price of the uk's unleaded 95.

But i suppose America is bigger so people have to drive further.

He didn't. Somebody probably informed him a meeting was on and almost walked out in the buff. Then Laura informed him of his missing items and he went back to get them. He then picked up his toothpick off the dresser and the wife asked, "You sure you're not forgetting anything."

"Nope everything's fine," Mr. Bush then walked out the room as Laura Bush got the hideous view of his ulcer on his left rump. Not too long after that he rushed back in and put his clothes on for the conference. The first reporter's question then was, "Mr. Bush why are you such a deuce bag?" That question however was edited from the report and that reporter was thrown to a pack of wolves to never be seen again. THE END! 8^D

Probably the very real threat that the Democrats would end up with a veto proof majority in the Senate and House and a sitting President in 2008.

Never has a President's actions been so consistantly discredited.

lol..

Great point! That, and the public relations (with a month to go) until the seasonal "Peace on Earth" is a mantra across christianity, Judaism, and Muslim world, etc... Peace is always welcome, sure. But, you can BET that the White House media/policy and legacy wonks are working OT right now, so they can take December & January off.. in peace?

it is just his way of trying to stay relevant.
as the lamest of lame duck presidents, he trying to save what is going to be a very unflattering, abysmal legacy, and with a little over a year left as pres. he will try anything.

Not matter how much I dislike Bush, the price of gas and oil is due to worried investors and futures. 40 dollars of the cost of a 99 dollar barrel of oil is pure worrying. OPEC does not even have the control of prices as it used to.
