World of Warcraft players go psychotic, I've seen it first hand and it's a very sad thing.
If not an outright ban, the government needs to find some way to regulate these people. Give them an hour a day or something to help them.

That is a HORRENDOUS story! Even MORE shocking than the incident, itself, is how many answers you have received ahead of mine that are willing to sanction this behavior and hold those policemen blameless! I will TOTALLY AGREE that the woman should not have tried to flee the scene like that, but there are plenty of other ways the police could and SHOULD have handled it. The MOST obvious thing they should have done was shoot out the tires. That failing, we can presume they had a good description of the car and probably the license plate, too, so they could have radioed for another unit to pursue it and even set up a roadblock to catch the woman without harm to her or the child. For that matter, they probably even had her home address where they could have staked it out and caught her when she returned. (Even if she planned to flee the area, there were, most likely, things at home she would need to stop off and get first for herself and the child.) It is true that you did not mention WHERE this happened, but police all over America and probably even more-so in other countries are just WAAAAAAYYYYYY tooo trigger-happy! Conspicuous by its absence from your tale is any account of the woman trying to shoot back at them or trying to run over any of them with the car. As you recount it, she was just trying to get away safely with her child. I will NOT argue the point that she SHOULD have been arrested. If she had any part in her husband's drug-dealing activities, CERTAINLY she SHOULD be arrested, but at a time, place and in a manner that would harm no-one. As for the excuse some of your other responders have given about poor marksmanship - to my mind, that is NO excuse! Before a policeman is given a gun, he/she should be required to meet reasonable marksmanship standards. Otherwise that person should not be allowed NEAR a gun anywhere BUT on the shootiung range! The idea that people are given this kind of authority and trusted with deadly weapons they are not competant to use safely and effectively is BEYOND outrageous! In the Pacific Northwest city where I live, there have been many shootings of civilians by the local police, but not ONCE in all of the 8-and-a-half years I have lived here has even ONE officer ever been held accountable for an easily preventable killing. (And many did not involve wanted criminals, but were traffic incidents or domestic problems where the victim was either unarmed or so lightly armed that they could easily have been handled without shooting). I do not know how far back in local history one would have to go to find a case where an unnecessary killing was assigned even a fraction of the responsibility and accountability it should have had! Certainly, the mother's actions WERE wrong, but SO were the police's! And TWO wrongs STILL don't make a right!!!

No it is not the game designer's fault. People are subject to their own decisions and must live with the consequences of their decisions. The game makers should not be punished because their customers cannot have self-control. Yes it is wrong what these people are doing, but it is not the game designer's fault people are so ignorant. Some people simply are too addicted to video games in general. It's not just World of Warcraft. Where I'm from everybody around here plays Madden. To be honest I am so sick and tired of that darned game. Madden this Madden that, I am so tired of all my friends want to do is play that darned game. They really need to go OUTSIDE and do something. They won't even play real football, but they don't mind fantasy teams. Plus they cheat. They don't even leave the original players on their teams. They switch up to make "the ultimate team". Please...

No, the game should not be taken offline. I really wish people would stop blaming games and movies for the wrong doings of idiots. Don't blame a game for people being so pathetic that they can't live a normal life and back away from the computer. Ever think these people might have mental problems or be depressed and use the games as a way to escape from their problems? Games do not make people do stupid things. Stupid people make people do stupid things. If those two "wastes of life" hadn't met on World of Warcraft, they would have met somewhere else, on a forum, in a chatroom. Stop blaming games. You should blame the people.

Some people have personalities that are addictive in nature. Before WOW, Everquest had many of the same effects on people. My brother seemed to be missing for a few years when it first came out. Its not the games fault that he lived the game its his. He could have walked away if he choose to.And before that people who have no self control played Atari,Nintendo, watched too much TV, ate too much, drank too much beer, smoke too much. People need to take responsibility for their own actions and stop this blame game crap.I play WOW from time to time but don't neglect my family. I have not hurt anyone because of the game. Like I said It is all about personal responsibility and self control.

Like all addictive substances, the user is to blame, not the drug. You're right to think that the game made them do it; hell, the devil makes me do crazy things too! Them losing their jobs and family and commiting suicide is a sad fact, but that means one less person who died of drunk driving, or cocaine overdose, or shot while running from the cops. Atleast they had a past time that was harmless and recreational. As for Ms. Invincible......I don't think she needed the game as an excuse; she was already in another world. The point is, rally against things detrimental to society; but please don't hate on people who teabag you in the virtual world.

My personal opinion? It's just a game, and it should be terated as so. I play the game, while going to college and working 20-25 hours a week, and I still get good grades (3.33 GPA), I have not been fired from my job, and my g/f has not left me. In regards to your friends who have "ruined their lives". To be utterly honest, they ruined their own lives. Nobody FORCED your friends to play the game, nobody held a gun to their head and said, play or die. So in all reality, if your friends (or you) weren't smart enough to see that they invested too much time in the game and that it was affecting their lives, then really thats their own fault and not the game's. In regards to the violence that stems from the game, you need to realize that these people more than likely would have done these acts no matter what game they played. I personally don't believe that video games intentionally promote violence. The bottom line is people who play need to realize it's a game, and ultimately its their responsibility and their choice how much time they spend playing the game and how serious they take it.

What about people who listen to rap music or "death metal?" Are we people who play WoW going to be lumped in with them? I highly doubt that a game, which has 9 MILLION players, is the cause of these crimes. This is just society trying to push short-comings off on something else rather than address societies issues as a whole. There are mentally disturbed people out there and who knows what they are into. But out of 9 MILLION people on WoW, not all of the them are going to be model citizens. Do the math and use common sense. This is ridiculous....

The game didn't ruin their lives. They ruined their own lives. Psychos are psychos with or without video games. Whether or not they had been playing, they likely would have wrecked their marriages with some other addiction, and the guys who met online and killed a girl could have just as easily have met in a bar. That doesn't mean we should close all the bars because rapists and murderers meet there or pick their prey there. Don't blame games for something that the individuals did themselves.

As tragic an incident this is, you can make the same case for getting rid of alcohol or speeding.
You cannot account for a defective or warped mind and there is no way to determine what can trigger it.
These decisions were SELF MADE. I mean, I used to do Y!A at work, until I realized how it was affecting everything. I compelled myself to stop at work and slow down at home.
Tough? You bet, but if you have no balance in your life, you could watch Naruto on-line all day long and get the same effect
