I understand the tactical and economic reasons why we are there but we're not making things any better and it's arguable regarding how beneficial it is to us.
If the majority of the citizens in the middle east do not want u s there because they disagree with out lifestyle and christianity, then let's seriously start putting together plans to get out of there and while we're at it let's start limiting how many of them we allow into our country, since they obviously hate what we stand for.

Mother, they are not fighting us here though and do we really expect to somehow subdue millions and millions of muslims who hate us with an army of about 150,000 guys?

R.D. I understand your analogy but are we trying to kill the tiger or are we trying to control the tiger? How long can we ride this beast and play this game with him. SOnner or later he's going to knock us off his back , so either we kill the tiger now or we get the hell away from him.

JimSock, you are proving my point exactly... isn't there something seriously wrong with the way we are structured if we depend on another religion, culture, country, region that much! All the more reason to begin putting in place systems to get from under this situation. When you're a slave Jim do you want to continue being the slave or are you content with being a slave? I think a real American would prefer freedom.
Are you telling me that this great country could not free itself of the very heroin youpoint out or are you telling me we're content being a junkie?

Jacob, you bring up very good points but Iwould argue, we have never left are been out of the Middle East as you have written. We have always been there, being there did not stop 911 and by Bush's own assessment, being there now is not going to stop future attacks on America... yet the answer is to allow thousand of muslims into the Detroit area on Visa? C'mon man, something is really *** backwards with that game plan. Like I said before, if we we're trying to seriously deal with the problem of radical islam I would be more on board but all I see is a bunch of old guys making a lot of money and pissing off more people.

Terras31, at some point we are going to pay a seriosu price for allowing so many people into our country from an area in the world that has so much hate againts us. It's just a numbers game. If Mohammed Attah and his boys were able to get in here and do what they did, then the answer can't possibly be let's allow more muslims to enter the country.
I agree with most of what you say by the way.

Since this appears to be a thoughtful and serious question, I will treat it as such and give you a thoughtful and serious answer.

Radical Islam has been at war with us and our allies since the 1970's. We, for many reasons (some sound some not so sound) did little or nothing about it. In that time there have been thousands of terrorist attacks against us and our interests. By and large, we chose to ignore the rising threat of radical Islam in the Middle East.

9/11 is the inevitable result of being out of the Middle East. We in the West are left with two choices. On one hand we can return to the policy of simply ignoring the Middle East, allow the Radicals to become stronger and stronger until they attack us here or elsewhere in the world. On the other hand, we can weaken them, keep them on the run, kill or capture them and their leaders and plant the seeds of freedom in the vast swamp of tyranny that the Middle East has been allowed to become.

We have seen the results of neglect. We are now in the process of cleaning out the Middle East of the malignancy that Islamic Fascism brought there and introducing the cure. The cure is democracy and self-determination. The cure is human rights and decency. The cure is religious tollerance.

Do not expect those who oppose this cure to simply go quietly into history. They understand what is at stake. We have a very real opportunity to make fundamental changes in the lives of the good people who live under these radical tyrants. This is difficult, expensive and will take a long time. But the money and lives we spend now are an investment in future peace, real peace in the world.

So you're saying: "while we're at it let's start limiting how many of them we allow into our country, since they obviously hate what we stand for." Thats going against everything the is (should probably say Was) american.

But to answer your question. The reason we are still there is becuase there is still money to be made, not just off of oil, but from the war itself. The central banks make a ton of money off of the debt we create when they loan the money. There is also the establishment of military bases which will give us a better position to declare war on nearby countries such as Iran.

Another answer is that the "War on Terror" is not meant to be won, its meant to last as long as it can so the elite can fill their pockets.

One more things that i would like to add that seems to be a problem with this question and some of the answers. Your speaking as if an entire culture of people is the enemy. This is far from the truth. There may have been a group that are hostile to us, but the actions we have made have ruined the lives and homes of thousands of innocent people. The words you hear from our government soil the name of an entire culture of human beings that have contributed so much to human civilization.

Ok good idea.
I don't care if Persia is restored by Iranians taking over Iraq and Kuwait.
Bye bye Israel they will be toast in a few months.
All those people working in the oil industry can be re-trained to make the toys we won't import anymore.
You're right, we probably don't need all those banks that will fail because they are all owed money by countries and companies that are based on Petro dollars. No problem.
There probably is no reason to expect the Iranians will use nuclear weapons. All that death to the zionists and death to America is just idle rhetoric. Nothing to worry about.
I don't care if the Persian Gulf is closed to international shipping. The Eruopeans can go back to burning wood chips to keep warm.
We probably don't really need an industrial complex.
I don't think we'll miss all those Sunni Muslims that will be massacred.
We don't need all those cars, trucks and trains. We can travel by electric bus and that won't be needed either because we won't have jobs to go to but, the government will feed us, right?
I'm with you. I don't want to play in that sand box anymore. Let's go home and watch TV.

Over the last decades we have tried that and we ended up with 911.
Next time it will be even bigger unless we do something right now to stop it. This is what is going on now.

As for not allowing them into our country we can forget that. We have way to many bleeding hearts in high up places to even think of it.
Also This would pertain to our politicians bout the same deal.

When someone hates as much as they hate,(and I mean everything). There is only one way to stop it and we can not do that. So right now we are just pecking at the problem not curing it at all. Just trying delay what we know it going to come about sometime soon.

Because 75% of the worlds oil is there! And our nice little comfortable, energy guzzling American lifestyle that you and the rest of the Western world have enjoyed is, for the most part because of that Middle Eastern crude. Now things are changing for the worse. The U.S. is going to have to compete with China and India for that same oil. Therefore we will be there until the last drop of oil is squeezed out of the sand.

highly unstable haters who believe that forced religion is the only way. They don't have any form of democracy. They just have people who are in the position of manipulating and controlling people like sheep. Telling people only what they want, like the end justifies the means. And when their way doesn't get good enough results,.. they just hit it harder.

Don't they know that their ways are the same as false confession by hard headed cops?

At least Christians believe that you can't force people to be Christians. That has to come from the heart. (yet, no Christian is going to put the government seal of approval on sin.)

I would say the largest is oil - followed by Bush's misconception of leaving a legacy of bringing democracy to the middle east. Arab countries do not want democracy.

Your good judgment is incorrect in lots of procedures. inspite of what many think of of u.s. and another international places. We do care approximately human suffering and freedom. Israel might fall and what might ensue then ? do no longer you think of the Jews have suffered adequate already. the midsection east might quickly be all of Africa, then the place might it end ? in simple terms it would in no way end. loopy leaders are in no way chuffed and choose greater. there are a number of stable human beings interior the midsection east that in simple terms choose peace and to no longer proceed with the killings.
