Of course not. It is the same kind of "crime" as calling George W Bush a murder. The freedom of speach must go in both cases.

I can kinda understand where the people are coming from,I don't think I would be to impressed if the local school teddy was called Jesus,it is abit disrespectful BUT that would be the end of it,name change bla bla bla,the end BUT the way they are acting over Mohammed the Teddy is beyond the joke, its seems like any excuse is a good excuse no matter what!!!!!!

No, Jesus said a lot of things but never anything about teddys. He wouldn't mind at all if you called your Teddy Jesus because he is more about love and understanding. And he had a sense of humour! Something sadly lacking in the Muslim faith

No. In the USA we don't criminalize religious insults or blasphemy unless it rises to the level of a "hate crime"'. Don't think this would qualify.
Also, Jesus is a proper name, and very common among Hispanic males. Jesus of Nazareth did not have a copyright.

i know where this question comes from and we have to bear in mind the different cultures we are talking about...
some cultures and not so liberal when it comes to religious matters.. it is their problem!! we should not intefere as long as it doesnt affect us, which in the case we all reffer to, it does.
i think the teacher that went to jail should've learnt more about the culture she lives in..get an awareness of do's and dont's.... In this way, this whole thing would've been avoided

As a Christian I would find it inappropriate and if one of my Children's teachers had done that. I would have made my feelings known and left it at that. There is more to this and I think the local SH one dot T with an E on the end is at work here

No, of course not.
And other people answering seem to be overlooking the fact that there's legal proceedings against a teacher who called a teddy Mohammed - wasn't he a religious figure also?
Makes you think about the idiocy of our government system and the pettiness of so many of our childrens' parents that they'd object to something so trivial...

No for for we live in a relatively tolerant society. Islamic justice bears little to the way we think as Christians.

I had a golly which I named jesus when I was about three years old. He had no hair and only one eye but I loved him. Incidentally, I know several men called Mohamed. Is this also blasphemous? I really don't get it.
