REMEMBER that slopes of parallel lines are equal.

Hence slope of line through (4,11) and (1,y) = 2

slope formula = diffrence of y- co-ordinates/ respective difference of x co-ordinates.

Hence, slope = (y - 11)/(1-4) = 2

therefore y - 11 = 2(-3) = -6

=>y = -6 + 11 = 5

therefore y = 5.

parallel lines have the same slop, so use the slope formula:

2 = (y-11)/(1-4)

2 = (y-11)/(-3)

-6 = y - 11

y = 5

that's it!

(4,11)(1,y)

(y-11)/(1-4)=2
(y-11)/-3=2

Multiply both sides by -3:
y-11=-6

Add 11 from both sides:
y-11+11=-6+11
y=5

Check:
(5-11)/(1-4)=2
-6/-3=2
2=2

I hope this helps!

(y - 11) / (1 - 4) = 2
y - 11 = - 6
y = 5
