When we look forward to the future, which creates a desire for things in the future.

When we think of times in the past that we enjoyed, which gives us the desire to try and have these experiences again.

When we feel unsatisfied in the present, we just have a desire for "something" to make us enjoy it.

It is an interesting thing, why can't we just enjoy the present? The reason is that we always focused in the past or in the future, and because the past and the future do not exist (right now they do not exist) then we have a desire to live in the future or live in the past. What people need to do stop thinking so much, when you stop thinking, then you are not absorbed in the future or the past, and you realise that the present moment is actually all that exists, and you must learn to be satisfied with it, not try to run away from it all the time, because you can never escape the present.

Ego requires mainly three things to survive.
1. Possessions
2. Power over people, and
3. Memories of experiences.
At all times the ego grasps out for these, which leads to desire.

The root cause for desire in general is ego...... but for ego, we would be free of desires and be able to make do with whatever we have and whatever comes our way.
