Depending how and where it hits you it can cause much dammage and possibly kill you. Even a spit ball can seriously hurt you. Rain evaporates as it falls to the earth so this wont harm, but you take a solid object and throw it, it will pick up soo much momentum and have so much force it can cause harm. I think there are signs warning not to throw anything or spit.

This is one of those old sayings. But I very much suppose that anything dropped at a big enough height could do damage.
Try this as an experiment. Put a normal household plate on a carpeted floor and from an inch drop a heavy book that wont do much damage. But then drop the book from a greater height and the plate will be damaged apply this same formula to dropping a penny from the Empire State.
Whether the penny will in fact kill you is one thing but whether the penny could cause you harm well thats obvious.

Nope, I saw the mythbusters one and they confirmed that it was a myth also I saw another show that tested it and found that many of the pennies end up landing somewhere on the building because of the wind pushing them into it. They say they are constantly cleaning up pennies from off the building. Surprising how many people will try to kill someone with a penny!

A penny falling off the Empire State progression could kill someone if he or she were hit by it. it truly is why it truly is unlawful to drop small products like pennies off of skyscrapers. it can be equivalent to status up there with a sniper's rifle.

*People say that all the time, but I know that if you look into the physics of it, and looking at the weight of the penny and the speed it falls and all that stuff, that it really cant build up the momentum to go fast enough where it kills you....*

No, as the mythbusters proved this.
Updrafts slow the penny, so the worst that would happen is a head scar, but no death

If it hits you on top of the head? You're as good as DEAD. Ever heard an acorn fall from a tree onto a car? That penny will enter the top of your head and travel straight in.

no, they did a special on myth busters that said it wouldn't. The penny reaches terminal velocity before it hits the ground. Its not goin fast enough.
