One is 11, the other 13, both sweet girls. We have a good relationship, I treat them with much love. I like tradition and at home I make them wear frilly pinafore aprons, even when they aren't doing chores. It's the cutest thing, they look adorable in them. Her aprons are like that Alice's apron at http://www.inthestarlight.com/aprons.html They don't like that much, especially the 13 yo, but obey. My 13 yo old gets a bit embarrassed when she wears it in front of her friends or strangers, but everybody says they look adorable. It's a law at home, I don't back off. My 13 yo is starting to complain a lot, I guess she's about to rebel. So far she didn't, but she keeps saying she doesn't want to wear her pinafores any more, none of her friends wears one. I've been understanding but firm, keep treating her with love but said she'll keep wearing her pinafore, it's my decision, I won't back off. Should I punish her if she keeps complaining or rebel?

I think you should back off a bit, if she doesn't want to wear it, don't make her. Because you are forcing her to wear this, she may never know completely who she is, or she will figure out who she is and hate you for a long time, simply because it seems that you aren't being supportive of who she is by allowing her to express herself when she is at home. Home is supposed to be where you're the most comfortable, certainly not where you dread going because your mother will force you to wear a frilly pinafore. Make the pinafores a fun thing, like when you're all in the kitchen baking, you could all wear one. Stop forcing the poor girls.

as a teen myself i would have to say the reason she is rebelling aganst the apron is in reality she really is getting too old for that kind of thing. In front of her friends? well lets just say if the jr. High/ high school community found out she would me mocked and ridiculed forever. Its an apron, and the only reason adults think its cute is because it's rediculous and funny. But thats just my opionon. No offence but your kids are getting too old to be wearing pinafores that are usually reserved for A) young children B) old people or C) halloween coustumes. if she dosn't want to wear it, just let it go.

Well it is a bit out of order making them where pinafores at 11 and 13. At least let them not have it on when there friends are round.

In another question, you said you were 15 and having problems with your mother. How have you suddenly got 13 and 11 year old daughters? Did you give birth at the age of 2? This is a really strange and disturbing question to post. Is this your plan for your future children? Maybe you ought to think about not having kids.

Your daughters have entered puberty and are becoming young women. They are no longer little girls for you to dress up like perfect little angels. Your need to keep them pristine is nothing more than a need to control your environment for your own pleasure. I am not saying you should allow your daughters to become immodest young women, far from it, but your current dress code borders on the ridiculous, and will only serve to be detrimental to your daughters' emotional development. Being a loving, firm, and involved parent is good, but dominance, inflexibility, and unrealistic expectations will work against you and your daughters with each passing year. It's high time you "cut the apron strings".

I think you need to let her decide if she wants to wear it or not. She is old enough to pick out her clothing and with a developing personality should be able to express her self with said clothing. If you like aprons so much you can continue to wear them, but your daughters shouldn't have to. You should not punish her for wanting to be herself and for growing up. I would imagine that you would have a hard time finding girls who still played dress up at the age of 13.

Oh dear, as much as I like tradition,
Frilly stuff are bloody hard to wash and take care.
I pity whoever in the household that is doing the washing.
I 50/50 support you, but seriously.
I'll go berserk if I have to wear them everyday at home.
By the law of nature, you can't force someone to do something that is against their wishes.
It's high time you let them go to have their own choices.
Do you love them when they are wearing frillies better than without fillies?
Don't tempt the devil. It's just a saying.

Don't you dare punish her, 13 is a big age, where most girls now take the leap into the wonderful world of puberty. Shes rebelling because I'm sure she doesn't want someone to tease her, shes a new teenager, she doesn't want to look cute, she wants to look cool! Punishing her will make her rebel more with you in the future. Maybe let her take it off every once in a while, but still make her wear it regularly. Or let her take it off when shes around friends, Things like that is what make children hate their parents. You need to lay off, really. Your 11 year old, may follow the rebelling, so be ready for that too.

back off, you freak.. If she doesn't want to wear some cutesy apron, let her take the damn thing off.. ffs... what kind of bullshit is that? She is 13 yrs old.. let the poor girl grow up, stop trying to keep her a pretty little 5 yr old..
If you continue this nonsense... you'll have more problems than just a little rebelling..
jeez.
