Am off to Netherlands tomorrow and wondered if anyone could tell me if there's any informal words for 'thanks' or 'thanks very much'.

Consider yourself very lucky to be going there!
Some simple ones are:
thank you - dank u wel
please - alstublieft

Try these sites:

http://homepage.mac.com/schuffelen/vocabulary.html

I use those sites, and am pretty pleased with them.

Enjoy Holland!

Informal would be 'dank je' pronounce as 'dank ye' with the a sounding like the one in handy, and the e as uh.

You can say "bedankt" (buh-DAHNKT) which means "thanks", or you can say "hartelijk bedankt" (HAR-duh-lick buh-DAHNKT) which means "thanks VERY much".
