People have knowledge usually by virtue of experience or intelligence. The wise have both; they read the great philosophers and poets, and are intrigued by the humanity that surrounds them. Observation is the key, then draw connections between what you observe it will give you insight as how to act in a certain situation as well as make you interesting to talk to.

I wouldn't say you're dumb; perhaps others spend more time thinking in general or reading. Quiet people seem to know more, but that's a bit biased! We watch, analyze, and "see" the things some people miss. I inhale books--reading everything from Tolystoy to pop-lit to intriguing non-fiction works. All that watching, reading, and thinking lends itself to seeing the connections to other ideas.

It's awareness. When you get out of your thinking, all the chatter of the mind, put down the earplugs and shut off the music, you become aware of the world around you. You pick your head up and open your eyes and ears and begin to see things. You understand and learn, and that becomes the knowledge to live in the world, to build upon and make choices. It snowballs and becomes wisdom and intelligence.

It all depends on what you're driven to stuff yourself with. Some people hoard knowledge and it becomes an addiction. Don't envy them; it can really stifle creativity sometimes. An empty vessel has no prejudices.

you are not dumb, i am sure you know many things, you learn from what you expose yourself to
there are many types/forms of knowledge, all equally important,
keep that in mind, knowing how to put out a fire is just as important as knowing complicated philosophy theories
knowledge comes from learning, learning comes from the opportunity to learn, opportunity requires that you keep an open mind and willingness to learn , and seek out ways to learn

Because they choose to learn. I read all the time; magazines; books; whatever, about everything (except sports; bores the hell out of me.) Anything you want to know is out there. Its just up to you to be interested enough to find it.
