spanner in your workshop, just imagine how loud it was when 1.5 milltion tons of steel and concrete fall to the ground in 10 seconds, surely some people must have been made deaf by 9/11?

Probably about rock concert or jet engine levels. It's pretty tough to get any sound over 140-150 decibels. And since sound lessens at the square of the distance, you would have had to have been right at the site to get the full blast. There probably was quite a few folks with temporary hearing loss and tinitus as a result, but that stuff goes away in a short time.

I saw an amazin' photo of some guys chilling out on the other side of the water, they looked really relaxed as the pall of smoke was rising. Didn't look as though THEY heard it.

I have to agree with Sidney on this.

I hardly think your comparison's are viable. Not that it makes any difference. A pretty insensitive question really, to be honest!!

Imagine watching the planes though! They were already in shock.
I remember how I felt seeing it on TV, to have actually been there, OMG.
