1and 2) Except the regualar clothing and toiletaries, make sure to bring your passport, driver's license, insurance policy, and make sure to make copies of these in case they get lost or stolen. A credit card is always a good idea too. If you are planning on bringing a lot of cash, I would put some in traveler's check.

If you have certain medicine that works well, bring them. Especially for stomach ache and head ache. You want to take medicine that you already feel comfortable taking, instead of going through a chaos trying to find the right one that works for you at the Japanese drug store.

A electronical dictionary works better than paper ones, based on my experience.

3) Depends on how many laundry loads you are planning on doing out there and what types of activities. If you are planning on getting dirty (camping, hiking, outside activities) then it is always a good idea to bring a couple of extra sets of clothes, but if you are staying mostly inside or just walking around the city, then you shouldn't need too many extra clothes.

I hope this helps! Have fun out there!

Bringing a pair of pants and shirt for each day is silly. You have a limited luggage allowance, both for size and mass (weight). Bring three pants, three shirts (not including what you are wearing), and the same amount of underwear. If you are staying with someone I'm sure they'll let you do laundry. If you are staying in a hotel, see if they have laundry service.

5° to 15° C is the equivalent of 41 to 59° F. That isn't so cold, even for me in southeast Texas. I'd say one sweater (cardigan type) and a light jacket should be all you need.

If you are staying with someone, bring a gift that represents your country or represents your relationship with that person. It doesn't have to be too expensive, but a pair of socks you picked up in an airport shop will just be looked at as an insult.

Bring your passport (or else you won't get in or be able to leave). Bring CASH. At least 100 dollars per day, converted to yen. Japan, unlike Mexico, does not take US currency as a medium of exchange. Why do I say cash? Because relatively few places take credit cards, and those that do take the Japanese version of credit cards (different stripe, and they are based on accounts in Japanese banks). However, if you do run short of cash, you can use certain ATM cards at post offices and 7-11 stores. CHECK WITH YOUR BANK.

You won't be there long enough to need anything (like reminders of home), but the usual toiletries like toothbrush, razor, and deodorant come in handy.

I don't know what you are doing in Japan, but if you are taking the train any long distance, consider a Japan Rail pass. You have to buy them in the US (you can't buy them in Japan). Japanese trains are fast, but they can be expensive if you are say going from Tokyo to Osaka. That trip takes as little as two and a half hours and costs 14,000 yen ($130) on the Nozomi (quickest bullet train, known as Shinkansen). You can't ride Nozomi on a rail pass (you can ride Hikari RailStar, which is as fast but makes a few more stops). Oh, and the cost would be the same without the pass (you pay for the distance, and you pay for a seat, and you pay to ride Shinkansen... not a specific Shinkansen). A 7 day pass is 28,300 yen, so just one round trip would pay for it... going farther or to more places and you get some substantial savings.

I don't know what else you'd need. Since I don't know how old you are, I'd say any medication, a card showing any medical condition, glasses or contacts (and solution) if you wear them, and... room in your luggage for souvenirs.

Have a good time. I'll be going in February (originally November but moved back, so I researched all of this last month).

EDIT: Some knowledge of the language is a great help and will make people more likely to help you. I bought a phrasebook. Lonely Planet makes some good ones and the Japanese one also has a 2000 word two-way dictionary.

Condoms. Lots and lots of condoms. Plane tickets, passport. A video/picture camera. About 3 jackets so you don't look like the same person every single day. Bring about 10 shirts, 10 clean undies, and 3~4 pants would do. And pack up your essentials - soap, shaving cream, toothbrush/paste, deodorant, etc. And english-japanese dictionary and it would also help to bring a laptop if you have one. Oh, and don't forget to check the internet for a list of places you wanna' visit. A good thick book for the plane ride. And most important of all - A PLAN. Enjoy.

1) I can't give you a list I don't know who you are or what your travel habits are.

2) Again, I can't say, if you are missing something, *Most things can be found in Japan.

3) Depends on how you like to dress, remember you are limited in luggage space, unless you like to pack large suitcases and walk around, whatever floats your boat.

Think about it this way:
If you are about to travel tommorrow, not just to Japan but anywhere, what are the normal things you would bring with you? Once you figure that out, bring that.

If you are going to visit some people, and see them everyday, I would bring a different set of clothes for each day. Sweater, long pants.

Bring an umbrella. At this time of year, depending on where you go, it will probably be raining or snowing.

If you are going by yourself, you are going to take the JR a lot (japan railway).

Bring a japanese-english dictionary if you aren't fluent.

Lots of money. Japan is expensive. Probably want to bring money in forms of travelers checks. Dont buy electric equipment over there.

Passport, or you wont be coming back.

Backpack for your stuff.

Camera. Batteries.

Hi,

Since you only going for 7 days, it's necessary to take cloths so you should take 3 pairs of pants and wash them and wear for the 7 days by circulating it, also depending on occasion, like if going for a party casual will do and if for a conference formal will do, two pair shoes is sufficient carry shirts for whole seven days meaning 7 shirts and don't forget your pjs, 2 should be enough. carry enough money and don't forget to carry hand luggage cos accidents happen with bags where they get delayed so carry one pair outing cloths and one pair pjs in case if this problem occurs. also carry a Japanese hand book to be on the safe side. organize your accommodation and don't forget your ticket......Have a wonderful trip.....hope this helps abit :-)
Safe trip to Japan:-)
