It could have turned out quite badly, but in the end entering the "Win A Date With Bob Dylan" contest was one of the best things I ever did . "Why would you want to enter a contest to win a date with a man?," you ask. Good question. The answer being, he is the greatest song writer ever!!!

The fact that he's a man, and I'm a man is precisely why I never entered such contests before. But, back when we were close friends in high school, (3) the queen once told me "You have to do what you have to do in life." So, I finally entered one of those contests, never expecting to win.

Intially, Bob was not pleased with the results of the contest. His first reaction surprised me because he isn't even British, but he said (5) "Bloody hell, why do you think I would want to go on a date with a guy?" (I guess that was due to the influence of some of the British stars he hung around with at times.) He added (10) "I can just see the headlines tomorrow: DYLAN CAUGHT IN TRYST WITH OLD MAN!!!

Nevertheless, he agreed to participate in the "date" but demanded chaperones be present in case I tried anything untowards. I agreed to the chaperone requirement but was very surprised when (8) Paul McCartney AND Mick Jagger joined us for a cup of tea. I didn't even know Bob liked tea and I thought I knew everything about him.

During the whole "date" I couldn't help but think of all those Beatles and Stones fans who laughed at me for being such a big Dylan fan all those years. (9) If they could see me now!.

The talk centered mostly around music, but they included me in the conversation. Paul talked about him marital problems to which Bob commented (7) I guess that's why you last song was a flop, huh?" I asked Mick about his next album. (2) "The name of my next album is going to be 'Polka Music for Seniors," he said, revealing that he intended to take his music in a new direction. Bob was somewhat taken aback by that revelation remarking (6) "Soooo...this is a bit awkward Mick, but that is exactly what I had planned for my next album. You know how I am always moving my music in new directions." In the end they agreed to collaborate on an album which should be exciting news for all Stones and Dylan fans. I expect it will go platinum the first day.

So, my "date" with Bob and friends went very well. In fact, I think he rather liked me. As we were rapping up the contest director told me he would provide transportation for me to get back home. Bob said (1) "And by transportation you mean LIMO....Right?" So a limo was furnished and I savored the memory of my "date" with Bob Dylan during the limo ride home and for years later.
