I had in the past thought about going abroad to help, but there's absolutely no way that I would now. I hope that those helping will start having second thoughts, nobody who's job is one of giving help, hard work and care to people should be unprotected and in a situation of such danger.

Yes,it will make people think twice about helping third world countrys and if they do lash Ms Gibbons i think there will be a backlash against Islam any decent human being would not like to see that happening.

The fact is a lot of these countries don't like us and take our aid with contempt. UK should grow up and stop behaving like a child trying to buy respect and love around the world, winning hearts and minds blah blah, what tosh. Withdraw the aid, accept they don't like us for whatever reason, and concentrate on trying to run this country with at least a reasonable level of competence. The empire has gone. I wish the ruling class could get over it.

Well this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened. Its usually sorted out diplomatically. Probably a deal will be done behind closed doors and she will come home etc.
I am surprised people still go, but they do
so they have to take it on the chin. Its all politically stage managed.

Its an appalling state of affairs and i hope that this woman is not subjected to their archaic practises, i would wonder that the consulate should be doing all they can to get her out of the place. And there could be a backlash, you can see how many people feel very strongly about the differences between some of these extreme religions.

as the saying goes 'charity begins at home' so am donating to Salvation Army this Christmas, thinking about donating to Oxfam as well.
As she was still learning about local customs she should just have a warning, the children in her class will probably be more savvy in their choice of names for teddybears in the future. Whoever decided she was guilty of blasphemy had nothing better to do at the time.

They won't lash her or jail her. Some one will offer them a few grand and she will be sent home and forbidden ever to cross their frontier again. Bit of compo makes everything OK and all westerners look like the bad guys! - great.
