I read in this mornings paper that most Australians think that there mother country is America, whereas the Americans think that they are British which in turn upsets the British who think that the Australians should keep themselves separate from the UK. My question is, Who do they belong to?

they belong to themselves.. they're independent of anyone else.. like the US, they were once colonised by the british, and australia was more of a prison than a colony.. hence the australians actually disrespect the british for that. as for america, where did that come from?

I don't quite agree with you. The European Queen's picture is on Australian money. Australian accents are very similar to British accents. Come on, you guys are way British. That's not a bad thing. However, Australia's customs may be closer to America's in many ways compared to the British.

As for Americans thinking they are British, we know most of us descended from Britain, but we also know we are almost nothing like them culturally. We're a hodge podge cultural mess, because there are so many people in U.S.A. from many different countries.

I don't agree. I'm an American in Australia, and if anything, I see strong ties to the UK. The queen's picture is on the money here, email is "British" English, there are a large percentage of Brits here (known as POMs or POMEs), they drive on the left side of the road, Vegemite is like Malamite (or however it's spelled), and historically most Aussies were from England.

Yes, there are some similarities to the US. But not as many. And as for Americans, I'm happy to be American (true red, white, and blue....thank you).

I'm not sure about that at all. I guess no-one belongs to anyone else but I never felt that the Aussies felt their mother country was the States. Australians are very patriotic and I don't think they see any other country as their mother country.

This became into all a on a similar time as in the past. between the muslim leaders in Australia made a debatable assertion approximately women exhibiting themselves like meat in a butchers shop... and in the event that they get raped it extremely is the female's fault. i've got travelled to particularly some Muslim international places and a splash appreciate for the technique of existence is going a protracted way. You gown conservatively and act respectfully in accordance to the interior reach rules and customs - and that i chanced on the midsection East between the friendliest and maximum secure places i could visited. by employing a similar token, Australia has gender equality and a low tolerance for rape and abuse of ladies. To have a respected Muslim chief publicly carrying on approximately Australian women being little greater desirable than meat is unbelievably offensive and a completely unacceptable appropriate to be merchandising. it extremely is only so incorrect whilst an incredible variety of alternative Muslim leaders indexed right here are making an attempt to demystify their community - and standard contributors of the Muslim community are going out of their thank you to incorporate the Aussie existence type on a similar time as staying real to their faith. One muslim woman even joined the lifesavers with a specially designed bathing outfit to instruct it extremely is conceivable to be the two an Aussie and a Muslim. Australia welcomes incredibly lots anyone, no remember what u . s . a . or faith. Having radical, influental non secular leaders gaining citizenship and then ignoring our rules is "only no longer cricket"!
