Yes. I was part of a strike in NYC because I belonged to 1199 the union for hospital & healthcare workers. We were on strike for 47 days! After 49, we would have been eligible for unemployment.

The issues were pay scale; health care; pensions
and job security.

Yes to get the union in the Meijer stores in Toledo that was back in 1991 or 1992. It was summer and I got the best tan I had ever had. Would I do it again.....Yes if it is to fight for the rights of workers, for sure even if I'm not working for that company I would either stand there with them or bring them stuff like meals or whateven they need. I have never crossed the line to go into a store while they were on strike, that is hurting the employees and their children.

I'm in a union now for 21 years. CWA. I've never walked a picket line. I guess I've been lucky. We've had some contract quirks a couple times, but the company always resigned us.

We got a couple more years on our contract, each time though its always a nervous and jerky situation.

i replaced into in touch in 2 strikes and walked the wood each and every time. We have been amazing for greater suitable staffing (for defense subject concerns) greater suitable pay and bigger advantages. additionally to keep away from having some advantages taken away. the 1st strike lasted approximately one month. the 2d lasted 3 months. i'm going to permit you recognize, it is confusing to help a kinfolk devoid of pay. and of direction once you're on strike you do no longer qualify for any type of information. We manned the strains 24/7. at times there have been purely 3 or 4 individuals picketing. at times greater. the placement I labored might tell non strikers to park quite a few blocks away and that they might deliver a van around to p.c.. them up and take them to artwork.

Yes, for civil rights for the farm workers in California to obtain a union. Yes, for the right of all women to have abortions. Yes, to end the war in Viet Nam. Yes, to end abortion on demand in this country.
During the 3rd one I was at a a huge Peace march in San Francisco (April 1971) singing John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" when the song began to change and people were singing "Give revolution a chance" and began unfurling flags supporting the communist regime. I was very disturbed as these "Peace" lovers were screaming and fomenting overthrow of the government and anarchy as a true solution to the war. I began then to question and listen more to the news. I began to dig deeper into issues and ask questions of people on both sides of an issue. This self reflection and outward seeking led me to change my views on abortion after I spoke with people in Atheists for Life who pointed out to me that if I was for civil rights for all people then I should be for the civil rights of the most defenseless amongst us.
Once when picketing a doctor's office, the doctor came out and stole our signs. We took him to small claims court and won!

My last place went out on strike. The union sent in "business agents" from NY. Guys with crooked noses, named Vito. Nobody but nobody crossed the line. Not a lot of fun.

Not at my own workplace, but I've walked picket lines to support local workers' struggles. Mostly restaurants that underpay their Latino dish washers and bussers, and refuse to promote/pay them like they do their white employees. Solidarity forever!
