I have been reading up on a D&C and that it may scar and damage the uterine lining possibly leading to problems later on for future pregnancies. This makes me extremely nervous and also makes me want to cancel my appointment at the hospital on Friday to have a D&C to remove my blighted ovum.

My husband and I will try again in about 6 months to a year, but really don't want to go through this heartbreak again. Has anyone had a D&C and went on to have a healthy pregnancy?

I have had a blighted ovum in December 2005, you don't need to have a D&C if you don't want to. You can either wait it out (the pregnancy will resolve itself after 9-10 weeks. Or you can choose to take medication which is what I did (I didn't want to be in hospital around Christmas. The medication worked well and It was all over within a couple of weeks (yes the bleeding took that long). The meds I took was misoprostil, but depending on where you live you can take mifepristone which works better.

A D&C will leave little scars from the procedure, but it wont stop you from getting pregnant again or the procedure wouldn't be a favorable option.

Bear in mind that your uterus gets scar tissue from where the placenta detaches from in your uterus anyway so it dosen't make a difference. Many women have had 10 kids with no issues. Talk to your Doc about any concerns and ask about the medication route.

Good luck.
I went on to have a son in Dec 2006, I fell pregnant 3 months after my blighted ovum.

I had a D&C in June, for a blighted ovum. Now I'm 7 weeks pregnant, and I had a scan yesterday which showed a live fetus with a heart beat, so hopefully this will be a healthy pregnancy. Don't worry about the operation, complications are rare. Mine was very straightforward, no problems at all.

Yes of corse you can, some people have to have D&C's for many different reasons and still have perfectly normal pregnancies after...ie if you have a miscarriage and are over 12 weeks then you will more than likely need a D&C this dosent stop you from getting pregnant....it is mainly to scrap the lining of your womb away....dont be worrying about it if you are talk to your doctor they are the ones that deal with this on a regular basis no one here will be able to tell you what to do!!

your G.C will be able to help you as that is what they do every day!

You certainly can! My own sister miscarried about 18 weeks into a pregnancy between her first and second child. She had to have a D&C to remove the remnants of the placenta and other products of conception due to heavy bleeding. She went on to have a perfectly healthy son about 18 months later. If a D&C is done properly, it doesn't harm the uterus at all - just removes the lining, and allows the body to "start over" from scratch.

See the cutie in the photo? I assure you I had a terrible painful D and C when my pregnancy went bad at 12 weeks and I went on to have baby V. A second opinion and other options can't hurt as we do hear this procedure can limit fertility however.
Good Luck.

Complications can arise with any type of surgery. Having a D & C should not make it more difficult for you to fall pregnant in fact with some it makes it a lot easier. If you need a D & C to remove a blighted ovum, you should have it because if you don't it could cause infection and worse problems than a D & C ever could.

hi if u have a blighted ovum then a D 7 C is the only way to remove it.
yes some times scarring occurs in the uterus during a D & C procedure leading to difficulty in concieving in future, but this does not always occur.
this could occur if the procedure is done by inexperienced persons in a small ill equiped place.
dont worry.
go ahead and get the procedure done and try for a baby as per the instructions of the doctor
(after u r body has healed)
take care

I had a D&C in early 1997 at 9wks pregnant. In 2003, I fell pg on our 2nd month of trying (having only dtd once that month) and had no problems whatsoever.

Of course there will always be a risk but the odds are you will be just fine.

Good luck for Friday, and the very best of luck when you try again.
