in typical verse-chorus form theres usually a section that preceds chorus, i dont think im thinking of the bridge because the bridge is usually near the end of the song before a return to the final chorus section

A short piece of verse like that can be called a "tag". It is a stanza of lyrics that are alone before a significant chord or verse/chorus change.

what ur actually thinking of is the bridge or what is more commonly called the interlude(not sure of spelling). this is the section of the song that links together a verse with the chorus,

although most songs use an interlude near the end, it is also used to connect a verse with a chorus

hope this helps u

the bridge is the build up to the chorus, or the pre-chorus. The part later in the sogn is called a mid 8
