and would it have to be such a broad meaningless question, that even if you got over a hundred replies, it would be a futile exercise...

ie: asking, what is your cat called...or how many brothers and sisters do you have....which i am actually going to ask now!

Yes, it would have to be a very broad, meaningless question; My cat is called "Shadow (but his real name is Mr. Earl). No siblings! Why not ask a 'series' of meaningless questions? , they might add up to a 'decent response'!

I agree, and see what you mean.
It seems that the downright bored become so though a lack of creativity, hence really dumb questions.

I usually have a ponder fot a day or so, to post what I hope is something of interest to most, without getting too technical.

An asked opinion on nothing too controversial, perhaps

My only Sister, like me, have no interests in cats.
Now what of any value to that to anyone.?

Anything from a personality - just look at the question which is currently open from Patrick Vieira in the football (soccer) section, which has 158 responses at present, hardly any of which, I suspect, are given by cut and pasters.

If you asked a broad and simple question like; "Are you female" you'd get a HUGE amount of responses. Other alternative popular question choices are as follows;
"Coke or Pepsi?"
"Ski or snowboard?"
"English or maths?"
"Summer or Winter?"
"Television or radio?"

It wouldn't be futile because you could look at your responses in a huge variety of ways to get something meaningful out of it.

I don't have a cat but I have a cool dog named Bud (after my husband's favorite beer) and I have an older sister and an older brother. Bet you get a huge response! Go for it!

"What color is your hair?" recently got 155 answers in P&S (I was bored and looked).

If you're a national or world figure, any question would get you into the tens of thousands. Hillory Clinton got 38029 answers, followed by Oprah Winfry with 37186.
