Depends if ya want the printer to work or not.
If it's a USB printer I'd ALWAYS say RUN the CD isntaller and ONLY connect printer when it asks you to . . .

As soon as you reboot, if the printer is still connected, then Windows will detect the "new" hardware and initiate the wizard to install it. Make sure that you have the installation cd handy, or since it has been installed before, it should be listed in the available hardware to install that you can pick from.

Ya, logically it should do the job, but keep the printer's installation cd handy, you never know.
If you lost your cd, you can get drivers for your printer on the printer's manufacturer's website
