i thought that one company was allowed to control or attempt to control one type of service.you know like the time ,time warner had a problem with some years ago.

AT&T was broken up back in the 1980s under the monopoly laws. Whether or not that was a good think with the so-called "Baby Bells" is a subject of much debate. However as anyone can see, they have since bought back most of the divested companies and we're now down to 2 or 3 RBOCs now who also have a near strangle-hold on long distance as well.

You can largely thank a business friendly administration over the past 7 years for this. The Republican party sold out to big business a long time ago, and the Dems aren't much better.

AT&T isn't a monopoly. A monopoly is where there is only one provider for a good or service. Obviously AT&T isn't the only one in the telecommunications field.
