I have had alot of conflict with my mom and other family members. They all say the world is horrid and it would be better to not have a baby. WTH Does it mean? If we all thought that way wouldn't there be no more babies thus the end of mankind?

I have said things like that years ago.
For me it meant: "The world as it is is awful, so it is not possible to become happy."
Now I think this is nonsensical.
The world is as it is & there is quite a lot of hardship and suffering in my own life & still I am deeply enjoying my life.

So when "confronted" about a new pregnancy, I would say that even in this world a happy and meaningful life is possible and I would also respond with a selection of:

I will give this child love, respect and support,
I will show the skills of enjoying life,
I will show the skills of expressing my feelings,
I will show the skills of loving other people, of being honest, of confronting people and of forgiving people,
I will show the skills of appreciating the beauty of art and nature and science,
I will show the skills of taking responsability for my life and for the world at large,
of course everything as as well as I can.

(I think people who think it's not a good idea to have kids, are lacking in all or some of these skills.)

I hear that a lot too. And I want kids but I also agree with that opinion because the world is getting worse and worse each day that goes by. It is unfair to bring a child into this world knowing how bad things are and knowing how worse they will get. The world is already overpopulated as it is already. I believe that's one of the reasons God made homosexuals because he knew it would be overpopulated. I think the more wise decision if you really wanted a child/children would be to adopt. They are already born and in need of love and a happy home.

The harsh fact is that it does not really matters that human kind continues to exist or not.

However, it seems to be practically impossible to not having a child or not getting married or sex for that purpose in today's world.

These are all some answerless questions that some of us do have. And we think to get some answer when we are young, once we grow up and become adults, we just ignore such questions.

We think we are stupids to answer such questions, which are annoying. And mothers keep telling such things, because they are frightened beyond their wits to see the world is moving ahead dangerously towards to nuclear wars, fuel problems, educational and employment problems, number of divorces, crimes that keep happening around.

That is just out of great love, they express such feelings at odd times.

You have to understand that those of us that lived in gentler times are frightened by what we see today. this is not familiar to your Mom and other family members. There are many dangers that they did not have to face. They worry for you. and for your child to be. There are many children out there right now that need a home, procreation is not mandatory at this time in our history. Yes, if we all thought that way our population would drop dramatically but then so might the problems affronting us.

I guess they just wish that the world was in a simpler time. Everyone seems to always wish that. I bet even when your parents were getting ready to have a baby, people said the same thing to them. If you want a baby, and you feel you can care for him or her and provide well enough, you do what you feel is right.

And people might have said that when your mother was considering having you. Life goes on, and if you want to have a baby, it's your choice. For all we know, the world might get better. Every generation has it's own troubles to deal with.
