The Union is not going to last much longer: we will all be under the EU flag so it is completely irrelevant. You may find you will be allowed a regional flag ( if you are lucky). I will be raising the Black Eagle of Leofric to declare home rule for Mercia.

In the 16th Century, the navy flew small flags known as jacks on the ships as identification. The Union Flag, on a ship, was therefore known as a Jack. Due to the public support of the Navy, the Union Flag was referred to as the union jack. As we are now 400 years after the term was first used, and it's been constaintly interchangeable since then, people who correct the misuse are really only pedantic in pointing it out. Both terms can be used, and considered 'correct'.

Terry is right. The Union Flag has looked the same since time immimorial so why change it now, I thought Scotland and Wales wanted to become separate entities anyway, so why not just use their own flags

No I don't think the dragon should be incorperated. The Union Flag is made up of the crosses of the saints so I think if anything th Cross of St David should now be considered.

Union Jack is the right name. Anyway, it is representing the union of the British Kingdom.
As time is going on, all demands higher self-governing power. It should be no problem to have the Union Jack for the United Kingdom (or the United Federation of Britain) and under it there are few local flags which would be like Australian flag.

First of all, the union jack is a naval term used for flags out at sea. The union flag is fine as it is.

If Wales wanted to be on the Union Flag, they should have spoke up in 1801. They are 206 years too late!!
Yes, it's only fair that Wales should be on the flag, but when since has life been fair? In any event, the Union no longer exists any more anyway, only in name. We can thank Tony Blair for that one.

No! The Union Flag should be put out to pasture - the Union is dead anyway, thanks to the creation of the scottish parliament.
Independence for England! Fly the Cross of St George.
PS. I do actually know that St George wasn't English, but until St Edmund is made our patron Saint, old George will have to do.
