I asked a very similar question to yours:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvNCl4PKvovyZSJEOm05HrHty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071028200317AAaPMCE
But it does not talk about why, but how it feels like to have few answers to a seemingly interesting question. But anyway, I think the reason why some questions have few answers because of the timezone, the volume of other questions that push yours down the list, and that the goodness of questions is relative.

Not as many people get our humor as we would like to think I suppose. I never mind. The answers I get are from the ones I love the most.

I agree!!!
I think it depends when the question is posted.
If your question is 1st,2nd,3rd or 4th you have more of a chance to get heaps of answers.
If it gets posted under that you only get a few and most of those answers will be your contacts.
