Recently Advocate Ali Ahmad Kurd played a leading role in estblishing rule of law, raising against military dictator Musharraf, in Pakistan. He bravely lead the struggle to re-establish supermacy of Supreme Court. He is so thin and slim and has a fragile frame. But his fiery speeches made him target of torture and punishment. He was bodily lifted, badly beaten and thrown in a police van. But as soon as he was released he came back as a lion to attack the tyranny. His leading character has given courage to othewise timid legal fraternity.

Another Kurd I can recall is Salahuddin Ayaubi, the King who single handedly beat back the onslaught of the crusaders.

Recently USA and Turkey agreed to fight unitedly against the Kurds. Are Kurds being persecuted for being descendents of Salahuddin? When Arabs, Balochs, Iranis and Turks live peacefully in Middle East, why Kurds are not allowed to form a homeland. by combining the provinces with

Ali Ahmad's lastname might be Kurd but he is not Kurdish. There are no Kurds in Pakistan. I think it is a misunderstanding.

In Pakistan, last names don't always relate to your ancenstry.

You've got a bit of your current events fouled up. Ali Ahmed Kurd is a Pakistani Muslim, not a Kurd.

The Kurd's problem is that they do not have their own independent country. They are a people without a nation. They live in an area that overlaps Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria. They consider themselves Muslim's but the Shias and Sunnis do not.

The unfortunate result is that they have been treated as second class citizens in all of the above countries and especially harshly treated by Saddam Hussein and Chemical Ali ... they were bombed with chemical weapons. The murder of Kurds was what Saddam Hussein was hung for. They have some very legitimate grievances.

Despite all of the hardships Kurds have to face, they are generally more affluent than their countrymen from other Muslim sects and as a result, tend to be used as scapegoats for the countries' problems.

In Iraq, the semi-autonomous region: Kurdistan is the most peaceful and most prosperous region in all of Iraq today. This is in face of the recent flap involving the Kurdish freedom movement (PKK) and the Turkish government.

The Kurds are very cool people ... and considered to be moderate Muslims by the C.I.A.

I think you are slightly misguided. Ali Ahmad would have been treated the same no matter what his ethnic origins were. He is a Pakistani man who is standing up against the government, just like many, many, many other Pakistani people. Its rather sad that the other Kurd you mention is from hundreds of years ago. Sorry, but why should any established country have to hand over land so people can have their own country. There are many people all over the world that want their own home land, not just the Kurds. Where would we draw the line? Life is never as clear cut as we'd like it to be. there are always other points of view to take into account.

Since when are Americans turning against the Kurds? I haven't heard that at all. In fact, they've been our strongest allies in Iraq. I sent hundreds of pounds of school supplies to Northern Iraq 2 years ago, for the Kurdish school children. They had nothing because of Saddam.
