A dvd cannot be read or detected on my PC but it is being on my laptop. This is the problem with many dvds and cds especially data dvds and cds. I have nero 8 installed on my PC but not on my laptop.

I have Nero and hate it. I took it out and use another program now. Half of the time Nero would not read a CD or DVD even one that was burned using Nero, but if I went into Explorer and looked at it the data was on it. Try that before you go changing drives and such. Your laptop reads them ok, so the DVDs and CDs are good. If you can't go into Explorer and read them on your desktop, then like suggested try cleaning your drive or replace it as a last option. If you have your system CDs, stick one of themin and see if it will read it.

well the only thing that i can think of its not a DVD drive maybe CD only you can check this by putting DVD movie in the drive and check if it comes up.

your pc may have dirty heads in the dvd player

change the DVD burner

Maybe it is ur codecs.
