I am singing two arias and my throat gets really dry - they are both huge arias and a dry throat will kill my top notes.
Do you think it'll be frowned upon if I take a sip of water after the first aria?

I think you should get into it and throw the water in your face. It'll show passion

Absolutely not. If you have a glorious voice you can do almost whatever you want to do. You are up there selling your voice and taking a little water is perfectly OK. It is normal to be nervous at an audition. You said you sing arias. Which arias will you sing at your audition? I am a fan of the opera since 40-50 years ago and I have heard all of the great tenors, baritones, basses, sopranos, etc. in person because I lived in New York and often went to the Met. Good luck.

Certainly you could explain to them that you will need to take a drink of water after your first aria. But wait, I think that drinking some hot water with honey and lemon before you go for the audition will soothe and lubricate your vocal chords. Or take a thermos of hot water, honey, and lemon with you to drink before you sing. Either way don't be afraid to say that your throat needs lubrication between your selections. I wonder though if you end up getting a role in an opera how you're going to cope with a dry throat. Professionals have all sorts of remedies for these conditions. Find out what is best for your dry throat condition, so you don't end up getting nodes on your vocal chords.

A small sip of water is okay as long as you don't call attention to it. Singing opera can be hard work.

Just PLEASE be discreet. After all, if you need to chug water every five seconds (speaking completely in hyperbole here), why would anyone want to cast you? (Again, not you personally, more of a general question).

Break limbs!
