What kind of birth control pills, shots, etc. would you recommend? I have tried the Ortho Evra patch, but stopped using it after hearing all of the horror stories.

Look up Ortho Evra online and you won't find anything good said about it.

Most birth controls have similar active ingredients. If you get your birth control from a Planned Parenthood chapter, you're at the whim of their budget as to what they can get you.

For a lot of people, who are decent with schedules, the birth control pill is the best choice. Mostly because you only need to take it once a day, and then you don't have to worry about it...

Before going into shots, patches, and IUDs... you should consider that pills have had years of research, and have been in practice for decades. And in all that time, their efficiency has remained high. Not only that, pills are the least invasive way, and one of the cheapest ways to NOT get pregnant.

However, if you're a sexually active person, and your partner(s) don't mind using condoms, and you wanna be cheap about it... you can't go wrong with buying gigantic boxes of condoms. However, with the pill, you never have the fear of a "broken pill."

In any case, you're going to have to talk to your doctor about it. Not all pills are effective for all people, and no birth control form (other than abstinence) is 100% effective, even with perfect use. Besides, regardless of what you want, chances are you're going to agree with whatever your doctor thinks is the best choice you could possibly make.

I'm on the pill. The brand I use is Femcon Fe and really like it. I have friends who have done the shot: Depo-Provera. Some of my friends really liked it.
