The used to call sons born out of wedlock, bastards. But we are a long way from those days now.

When a child is born before his/her parents are married the technical term for the child is a bastard.
Thats how the word came to be such an insult, because to imply that your mother wasn't married to the man who sired you used to be a much bigger deal than it is nowadays.
A bit of a nicer way to put it nowadays is to say that the child is illegitimate.

Im pretty sure any child born out of wedlock is called a bastard. I myself would call her lucky. MEN SUCK!!
