(a) would probably be the most common reason people fail, but (d) would be the one which, if it occurred, would be most likely to result in a failing grade. You could argue about any of the other points, but plagiarism is NEVER acceptable.

(a) unlikely. Even if content was terribly weak, most professors would give students points for the effort and following the format of the paper. So, even with a weak argument (unsupported), the worst a student would probably get is a 'D'.

(b) Possibly. Not properly citing items could be perceived as a violation of an academic integrity policy at the college/university, and for some schools, is an automatic failure. Out of all of the items you mentioned, this is the most likely to generate an 'F'.

(c) See (a). Unlikely, because unless the stats and facts were completely irrelevant to the topic, a grade is given for the efforts.

(c) Possible, but not probable. Copied material from the internet is a plaigarism charge, and while it MIGHT produce a failing grade, in many schools it's more likely to generate a nice little conference and an ejection from the class, if not the school. Looking at my past three institutions of higher learning, two would have failed the individual in the class, and one would have suspended the student from the school for a year.

d. copied material

It's too easy to google a sentence of peice of essay and come up with its original author. My professors used to do that all the time!

Is this multiple choice???

All of the above!!

But if I had to pick just one then most definitely D

But if it was copied, the copier should have at least copied something that wasn't weak and unpersuasive. And maybe if he/she would have cited, "D" wouldn't have been a problem and s/he would have passed! =)

Did I get it right?
